br. Questo testo è la traduzione italiana dell'ottava edizione in lingua inglese di uno dei testi di riferimento per la Fisica dello Stato solido in tutto il mondo. Gli argomenti classici della Fisica dello Stato solido sono trattati in modo rigoroso, ma non eccessivamente formalistico e, accanto ai temi classici della materia, il volume tratta anche argomenti aggiornati, frutto dei più recenti avanzamenti della ricerca nel campo delle proprietà fisiche dei solidi a livello microscopico: in particolare la nanofisica, cui è dedicato un capitolo, la superconduttività ad alta temperatura, la microscopia a scansione a effetto tunnel, i superreticoli, il tunneling Zener. Il testo presenta una serie di esercizi alla fine di ogni capitolo. Questi sono in genere molto semplici e quando presentano un livello di difficoltà maggiore, la cosa è segnalata in modo esplicito. Ogni problema ha un titolo, che consente di individuarne immediatamente l'argomento. Un sommario a fine capitolo riassume i concetti e le formule più importanti.
