Carte ingiallite uniformemente con rare e lievi bruniture, nel complesso ben conservato (una sottolineatura a pagina 11 in matita blu, un foro a pagina 201 sul margine bianco). Seconda edizione, pubblicata a pochi mesi dalla morte dell'autore. Petetin fornisce il suo resoconto della guarigione di otto catalettici tramite l'elettricità. Deleuze, il primo bibliografo della materia, dedica un intero capitolo nella sua "Histoire critique du magnétisme animal", alle opere di Petetin (pp. 247-258). Deleuze non approva la prima opera di Petetin, perché in essa l'autore rifiuta il magnetismo come causa di certe malattie, e sviluppa una personale teoria dei fluidi elettrici("Memoire sur la decouverte des phenomenes que presentetn la catalepsie et le somnabulisme", 1787). Ma a vent'anni di distanza anche il Petetin non disdegna le teorie magnetiche e le utilizza per curare alcuni suoi pazienti catalettici. Di ciò si compiace il Deleuze che finalmente scrive: "M. Petetin a persisté dans sa théorie sur le fluide électrique; mais il a changé d'opinion sur le magnétisme, dont il a reconnu la réalité". Deleuze, Histoire critique: pp. 247-258. Caillet 8563: Ouvrage devenu rare et toujours recherché. Entrambi ignorano l'edizione del 1805.‎

Etichetta di ex libris con bollo di ceralacca ad entrambi i contropiatti anteriore, sigla manoscritta ai frontespizio. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle con angoli con segni di abrasione al dorso, ai tagli dei piatti e agli angoli. Prima edizione italiana, completa delle 65 tavole, degli studi di Petro van Musschenbroek (1692-1761) pubblicati in edizione originale postumi da Johann Lolofs nel 1762 poco prima della grande svolta nelle scienze fisiche del 1770. Musschenbroek fu uno dei grandi scienziati olandesi che tanto contribuirono nella prima meta' del Settecento alla diffusione dell'approccio newtoniano allo studio della filosofia naturale. L'opera costituisce un'epitome "delle cognizioni che allora si avevano in fisica, contiene inoltre molte ricerche particolari dell'autore sulla tensione delle corde, sull'elettricita', sulla coerenza dei corpi, sulle proprieta' di quelli che sono fosforescenti dopo essere stati esposti alla luce ed una tavola delle gravita' specifiche, la piu' ampia che fosse comparsa fino ad allora" ("Nuova enciclopedia popolare italiana", vol. ‎brossura Il libro propone ai lettori un'analisi fisico-matematica su tutto ciò che riguarda il tema dei moti relativi, sia dal punto di vista galileiano che dal punto di vista relativistico, anche attraverso uno studio comparato delle due teorie. Tratto caratteristico del testo è la volontà di approfondimento, si è tentato di sviscerare le teorie fin nella loro essenza utilizzando il potente linguaggio della matematica, ma anche attraverso l'approccio applicativo mediante numerosi esempi per analizzare i casi particolari, tabelle e grafici. Questo volume non ha certo la pretesa di stravolgere teorie consolidate piuttosto cercare di far appassionare le giovani menti al piacere della conoscenza intesa come volontà di intraprendere percorsi culturali per così dire fuori moda. Il volume si compone di tre capitoli: nel primo si introducono le definizioni preliminari; nel secondo si affronta lo studio dei moti relativi dal punto di vista classico dimostrando matematicamente le leggi di trasformazione e di variazione e inserendo numerosi esempi e casi particolari; nel terzo si analizza lo stesso studio dal punto di vista relativistico, anche in questo caso dimostrando matematicamente le nuove leggi del moto, confrontandole con le corrispondenti leggi della cinematica classica.
