Clean and fine. � First editions of these seminal papers constituting Born's main contributions to Quantum Mechanics his PROBABILITY INTERPRETATION OF THE WAVE FUNCTION - it is considered to be one of the fundamental statements of modern physics. Born received the Nobel Prize in physics in 1954. <br><br>In his famous series of papers on wave mechanics Schr�dinger stated his equation describing the behavior of the wave function. However Schr�dinger did not himself arrive at a proper physical interpretation of the wave function itself - this is due to Born. Just a few days after Schr�dinger's fourth and final paper was published Born successfully interpreted the wave function as probability amplitude. His relatively brief paper the first offered here was originally meant to be published in the weekly magazine "Die Naturwissenschaften" but due to lack of space in this journal it was forwarded to the 'Zeitschrift'. The next paper offered with the same title is an elaboration of the first and here Born comes up with a statement pointing out the decisive difference between classical and quantum mechanics:<br>"Schr�dinger's quantum mechanics therefore gives a well-defined answer to the question about the effect of a collision but that is not a causal relation. One gets no answer to the question "how is the state after the collision" but only to the question "how probable is a given effect of the collision." Born comes up with the answer and summarizes his interpretation with "The motion of a particle follows probability laws but the probability propagates according to the laws of causality."<br><br>Brandt "The Harvest of a Century" no. 40. hardcover
