br. La vita di Albert Einstein è stata spesa inseguendo con lucidità e determinazione due grandi sogni. Uno scientifico: l'elaborazione di una teoria unitaria della fisica. L'altro politico: la pace del mondo. La tesi del mio libro è che quello di Einstein è stato sempre un lucido progetto politico. Fondato su solide basi culturali e su una notevole capacità di "leggere" in anticipo l'evoluzione della storia. Il suo pacifismo, infatti, può essere diviso in tre grandi fasi, durante le quali è stato adattato alla realtà politica. Una prima fase, dal 1915 al 1932, durante la quale il suo pacifismo ha avuto toni radicali. Una seconda fase, in concomitanza con l'avvento del nazismo, Einstein ha "sospeso" il suo pacifismo: riconoscendo che contro Hitler non c'era altra possibilità che opporre forza alla forza. Una terza fase, dopo il 1945, in cui si è battuto per il disarmo nucleare, considerando che quella atomica era diventata la nuova e più grave minaccia per l'umanità. Il pensiero di Einstein ha influenzato generazioni di pacifisti e ha avuto influenza su molti uomini politici, compreso Michail Gorbaciov.

br. Nella scienza i capolavori sono rari come nelle arti. Per essere tali, in loro la perfezione deve uguagliare la dirompenza. Perché rivoluzionano il mondo, alla lettera. John Gribbin non esita a spendere la parola "capolavoro" per la teoria generale della relatività, che lo stesso Albert Einstein definì "la scoperta più preziosa della mia vita... una teoria di incomparabile bellezza". Quando la elaborò nella forma che conosciamo era trascorso un decennio dal 1905, ritenuto concordemente dagli studiosi il suo annus mirabilis: pochi mesi leggendari durante i quali, in un impeto di creatività scientifica che non si era più registrato dai tempi di Newton, aveva concepito anche la teoria ristretta della relatività e scoperto la legge dell'effetto fotoelettrico, che gli avrebbe poi valso il premio Nobel nel 1921. Gribbin tuttavia rivede l'opinione comune, posticipando il vero miracolo dal 1905 al 1915, quindi alla generalizzazione della teoria, questa sì in sconvolgente anticipo sui tempi della ricerca. Ten years had to pass until Guye and Lavanchy confirmed the Lorentz theory and thereby proving Kaufmann's measuring equipment for imprecise. <br>In 1915 Guye and Lavanchy measured the deflection of cathode rays at 0.25c-0.5c. They used a tube with a cathode and anode in order to accelerate the rays. A diaphragm at the anode produced a beam which was deflected. A screen was placed at the end of the apparatus at which the impacts were photographed by a camera. They subsequently computated the ratio of transverse electromagnetic mass mT and rest mass m0 indicated by the red and blue curve and obtained good agreement with the Lorentz-Einstein formula. Their experiments were considered by many as conclusively proving the Lorentz-Einstein formula. <br><br>"Charles Lavanchy and Guye was able to develop very precise techniques for measuring particle deflections within carefully controlled electric and magnetic fields. In 1916 and 1921 Guye published these methods and pronounced results in favor of the Lorentzian formulas and Einsteinian theory. Leipzig 1918. first edition first issue. Hirzel. sm4to wraps. Two articles in a single issue of Physikalische Zeitschrift Mai 15 1918 Jahrgang 19 No. 10 at pp. 208-218; 218-220. The first printing of these papers by Hahn-Meitner and Schr�dinger appeared in May 1918 and this printing may be the first issue see below that preceded the first printing. This issue of Physikalische Zeitschrift has been removed from a binder's edition of the full year for this journal and it contains several misprintings and duplications at its earlier pages without affecting the Hahn-Meitner and Schr�dinger articles. Thus in the sense that a misprinted first edition of a work of fiction that is immediately corrected in a subsequent printing becomes the more valuable first issue of the first edition it is likely that this misprinted issue can be considered the first issue of the first edition of these articles. The other copies of this issue of Physikalische Zeitschrift that I have been able to review on the internet do not seem to have been misprinted supporting the assumption that this issue was promptly reprinted with corrections. 4to. wraps. Uncut. As with issues removed from a bound or binder's copy of the full year this copy lacks the original covers if there were any in 1918 a bad year for Germany.
