This was the artist's proof and is cited by him writing "proof" on the lower right in pencil next to Einstein's signature. The engraving measures 7 inches by 10.5 inches. Matted and framed. Alexander taught political science at Penn State University and was active in the women's movement and supporter of many societies promoting social welfare the environment and the Labor movement. She has also inscribed below "Autographed by Einstein for our fund-raiser for the Federation for Repeal of the Levering Act." The inscription on the pastedown is significant. Einstein is known to have endorsed the successful fight against having every California citizen/employee of the government pledge complete loyalty to the government no matter one's political affiliations. Additionally signed by the artist Emil Orlik on the lower right. The etching measures 10.5 inches by 14 inches. Matted and framed. The entire piece measures 20 inches by 17 inches. Emil Orlik was a painter etcher and lithographer who first studied art at the private art school of Heinrich Knirr where one of his fellow pupils was Paul Klee. From 1891 he studied at the Munich Academy under Wilhelm Lindenschmit. Later he learned engraving from Johann Leonhard Raab and proceeded to experiment with various printmaking processes. In 1905 Emil Orlik moved to Berlin and took a post at the "School for Graphic and Book Art" of the Museum of Decorative Arts Kunstgewerbemuseum now part of the Berlin State Museums.
