First print run (with no date printed on title) of the first separate edition (the 1st print was published as the concluding section of the author's »Protomathesis« in 1532) of this early, important and profusely illustrated account on sundials, clepsydrae and other ancient time-keeping instrument including diptychs, rings, multi-faceted and pillar dials, quadrants, mariner's astrolobes, as well as the mathematical or astronomical principles governing their use and design. The woodcuts by „G. Bordei“ (as mentioned in the preface) are elaborate adaptions of or newly cut versions taken from the blocks of those depicted in the »Protomathesis«. Oronce Finé (1494-1555), a famous French scholar and chair of mathematics at the Collège Royal since 1531, had also constructed an ivory sundial in the form of a ship, nowadays housed by the Milan Museo Poldi Pezzoli. Several woodcuts of the book refer to this construction. - Present copy was separated of a Sammelband and is protected with mould paper wrappers. First separate printing in the original wrappers of this 2nd and last supplement of a „fundamental paper on nuclear fission which eventually lead to the creation of the atomic bomb.“ (Dibner) – Contents, Edition: The German radio and nuclear chemists Otto Hahn and Fritz Straßmann "bombarding uranium with neutrons (as indicated by Fermi in the mid-1930s), found that treating the bombarded uranium with barium resulted in some strongly radioactive material. By late 1938 they suspected that uranium fission had occurred.“ These epochal findings had been presented by Hahn and Straßmann to the Prussian Academy on May 25th 1939. Their paper indicates in detail „fission of the uranium nucleus into two parts of about equal size with the release of much energy.“ – If the 1st paper from 1939 („Über das Zerplatzen des Urankernes durch langsame Neutronen.“) contains the first comprehensive description of this core nuclear achievement, the following two corresponding papers published by Hahn and Straßmann with support by chemist Hans Götte during the Second World War in 1942 („Einiges über die experimentelle Entwirrung der bei der Spaltung des Urans auftretenden Elemente und Atomarten.“) and the present of 1944 describe experiments to identify the fission fragments. – Alongside the aforementioned an Austrian woman scientist of Jewish descent, Lise Meitner, colleague of the authors at the Berlin Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institute of Chemistry for decades, also contributed heavily to their findings. Meitner had to flee Nazi Germany in 1938 but continued her research in exile, e.g. in Copenhagen, where she worked in the laboratory of Niels Bohr. Through Bohr and Fermi this nuclear energy was to become a reality in the atomic pile and the bomb blasts of 1945 as well as in the nuclear power stations of the following decades. Da una luminosa corte del Salento vi potrete ritrovare, voltando pagina, nella campagna francese di Balzac insieme a un medico di campagna, o davanti al mare in tempesta sull'Isola del Canto, la piccola isola di Mishima, o ancora a vagare per le colline romagnole tra calanchi e ricordi, immersi nella poesia di Tonino Guerra. E, strada facendo, scoprire che tra vento e volontà, baci e burrasche, pioggia e patemi è proprio il paesaggio meteorologico a farsi specchio di quello interiore. Una volta colto il legame, si torna a guardare fuori sotto un'altra luce, alla ricerca di nuovi orizzonti di senso e di futuro. Mister Meteo indaga la narrativa da una prospettiva laterale, cioè attraverso bufere, acquazzoni, calure micidiali e venti di disgrazia. In un ciclo editoriale di 10 uscite il discorso si dipana e ci restituisce un quadro variegato, curioso e inedito di come le vicende esistenziali mantengano una radice ben conficcata nelle vicende meteorologiche. ril. Passare dall'infanzia alla prima adolescenza nell'arco di un'estate, la stagione come contenitore simbolico che contorna tale passaggio. I protagonisti di queste metamorfosi, quasi tutti maschili, sono giovani immersi in un clima meteorologico ed esistenziale di sortilegio: il tempo caldo che fa fuori accompagna e contiene il tempo caldo che fa dentro, scandisce il ritmo delle esperienze. Tra mattinate assolate, temporali improvvisi e maree d'agosto, il tempo vacante e caldo dell'estate declina i turbamenti di quella stagione esistenziale deputata a varcare il limitare dell'infanzia e ne scandisce i assaggi iniziatici: il primo innamoramento, la prima esperienza sessuale, l'impatto con la morte, il distacco dal mondo degli adulti, di cui si mettono a fuoco, in modo inedito, segreti, dolori e fallimenti. Vento e nascondigli, burrasche e amplessi, pioggia e patemi compongono un paesaggio meteorologico che aderisce a quello interiore, disegnando in ciascuna storia la trama di un'esistenza giovane e di un'estate unica, se pur non sempre felice. Con scritti sul tempo che fa di: Ray Bradbury, Stephen King, Colette, Eduard von Keyserling, Gesualdo Bufalino.

Dal testo: In molti Osservatorii meteorologici si introdusse in questi ultimi tempi l'uso degli istrumenti grafici per mezzo della fotografia, della elettricita' o per azione meccanica a fine di paragonare le loro variazioni e di riconoscere in modo piu' esatto e facile le leggi dei vari fenomeni atmosferici.... Per esempio, il Meteorografo del Padre Angelo Secchi, il Registratore Meteorologico elettroscrivente, il Sismometro del Padre Cavalleri Barnabita, il Termometrografo, ecc...che nella maggior parte dei casi sono molto costosi e complicati.... Volendo pertanto unire al mio Anemoscopio scrivente oltre il registro della direzione anche quello della velocita' dei venti, ho ideato un Anemometrografo meccanico semplice e di poca spesa.. che funziona gia' dal 1863. Parnisetti fu un importante metereologo, fondatore dell'osservatorio di Alessandria nel 1853. e inventore di strumenti in uso in molte specole italiane.
