A very nice copy of a famous illustrated book. Baden-Baden, is in Southwest Germany, in the Black Forest. It is one of Europe's most fashionable spas. The city has many parks and a large casino (built 1821-24). Baden-Baden was founded as a Roman garrison in the 3d cent. Its hot mineral springs were used by the Romans, and remains of Roman baths have been found in the city. Ouvrage bien complet des deux parties, la seconde s'intitule : Observationum Medicarum Oppido rararum in Spa et Leodii animadversarum liber unicus.Très bel exemplaire de ce livre célèbre sur les eaux de Spa.Né vers 1570, Henri Heers était natif de Tongres en Belgique ; on sait qu'il avait acquis une grande connaissance de la philosophie, des mathématiques et de la médecine et qu'il voyagea beaucoup en Allemagne, Espagne et France, mais on ignore où il prit son bonnet de médecin. Il exerça la médecine depuis au moins 1605 et resta plus de 30 ans le médecin des princes Ernest et Ferdinand de Bavière, électeurs de Cologne ; il demeurait à Liège et allait chaque année faire une cure à Spa, ce qui explique sa connaissance approfondie de ces eaux et de leur indication thérapeutique. Il serait mort vers 1636. (Dezeimeris, T.III, 1ere partie, p.83 ; Vander Linden -éd. 1662, p.237-238 ; absent de Waller).‎

En effet, le président de la SPA, avec le soutien d'une majorité du conseil, a fait un discours louant Napoléon III (qui a reconnu l'association d'utilité publique en 1860). Mangin a écrit une lettre de protestation et de démission que Blatin lira lors du prochain conseil. Il le remercie aussi par avance pour l'article sur son livre Nos cruautés envers les animaux : au détriment de l'hygiène de la fortune publique et de la morale. Beau courrier. [299-2]‎

‎* Die Torsion beschreibt die Verdrehung eines Körpers, die durch die Wirkung eines Torsionsmoments entsteht. Versucht man einen Stab mit einem Hebel senkrecht zur Längsachse zu verdrehen, so wirkt auf diesen (neben einer etwaigen Querkraft) ein Torsionsmoment. (Quelle Wikipedia). In diesem Buch werden die im Bauingenieurwesen vorkommenden Torsions probleme auf elementare Weise behandelt. Das Ziel ist die Spannungsberechnung von drehbeanspruchten Staben, die einfach oder durchlaufend, normal oder schief gelagert sind, und deren Querschnitte voU, diinnwandig, offen oder geschlossen sein konnen. Ein prismatischer Stab hat zwei Moglichkeiten, aus inneren Kraften ein Torsionsmoment aufzubauen. Die erste entsteht durch Bildung eines geschlossenen Schubfiusses innerhalb des Materialquerschnittes, die zweite aus Schubspan nungen, verursacht durch Normalspannungsanderung in Stablangsrichtung. Die erste Moglichkeit ergibt den SAINT-VENANTschen Torsionsanteil, die zweite den Wolbtorsionsanteil. (Gelegentlich wird in der Literatur dafiir auch die Bezeichnung primarer und sekundarer Torsionsanteil oder, beim I -Profil, Torsion und Flansch biegung verwendet.) Fiir jeden Anteil ist eine Unterteilung in Festigkeitslehre und Statik denkbar, indem in der Festigkeitslehre nur die Gegebenheiten im Stabquerschnitt, d. h. die Bestimmung der Querschnittswerte und der Spannungsverteilung ins Auge gefaBt werden, wahrend in der Statik die Berechnung der aus Drehbeanspruchung erzeugten SchnittgroBen unter besonderer Beachtung der Stablagerungsarten an jeder Stabstelle durchgefiihrt wird. Mit Ausnahme weniger Querschnitte und Stablagerfalle halt in einem Stab die Summe von SAINT-VENANTschem Torsionsmoment T, und Wolbtorsionsmoment T OJ dem gesamten auBeren Torsionsmoment T das Gleichgewicht. Zur Statik wird nicht nur die Bestimmung des gesamten Torsionsmomentenverlaufes gezahlt, sondern auch seine Aufteilung in die beiden Komponenten T, und T OJ' Diese Zerlegung des Torsionsmomentes gehort zum Problemkreis der gemischten Torsion.‎
