‎The most significant agent of radical politics in Meghalaya is the CPI which is one of the oldest political parties in the country. From its very inception, the CPI claims to have championed the cause of the tribal people and stood for safeguarding their identity. Nevertheless, the CPI has not been able to achieve any significant breakthrough in the politics of Meghalaya. The CPI has contested all the assembly elections held in Meghalaya so far without achieving any success. This gives rise to a number of questions, viz., what is the relevance of the CPI in the political scenario of Maghalaya? What are the main impediments faced by the party in pursuing its radical politics in Meghalaya? And so on. The book examines some of these questions for an understanding of the reasons behind the failure of radical politics in Meghalaya and also seeks to assess whether such politics has any future prospects in the state. About The Author:- Susmita Sen Gupta teaches Political Science in the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. She had a brilliant academic career, holding positions in all public examinations. She stood 1st Class 1st in the M.A. Examination of NEHU, Shillong and was awarded a gold medal. She was felicitated at a Toppers’ Reception hosted by Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1986. She later earned the degrees of M.Phil. and Ph.D. from NEHU. She has done intensive research on the party system in India, regionalism, student movement, coalition politics, women and politics, ethnicity in the context of the tribal societies of North East India, politics of migration, globalization and so on. Her publications include a number of research papers on the above mentioned areas of Political Science in various regional and national journals and books. Her book titled Regionalism in Meghalaya was published in 2005. She is deeply interested in Indian classical music and had a training in vocal music. ‎Das Buch von Mischa Suter unternimmt eine historische Ethnographie in die prekäre Ökonomie des 19. Jahrhunderts, indem es den Moment ins Zentrum rückt, in dem Schulden unbezahlbar werden. Der "Rechtstrieb", die rechtlich sanktionierte Eintreibung von Schulden, formte einen Strom aus unzähligen Forderungen, Konflikten und Friktionen, die in ihrer Konkretheit sichtbar gemacht werden. Vor allem anderen sind Schulden ein Kräfteverhältnis, in dem ökonomische Beziehung und moralische Bewertung ineinander fließen. Der Alltag im liberalen Kapitalismus des 19. Jahrhunderts war ein undurchdringliches Geflecht solcher Verhältnisse. Wurden Schulden unbezahlbar, gerieten die von ihnen bestimmten Situationen in eine Schieflage. Die Eintreibung von Schulden war dabei eine basale Technik, die Zwangsvollstreckung ein Recht, das Sachverhalte voneinander abgrenzte, Werte umriss und Verhältnisse neu vermittelte: ein Recht der Wissenspraktiken, das unmittelbar auf die Lebenswelt der Betroffenen durchschlug. Männliche Schuldner riskierten den Verlust ihrer Bürgerrechte, Schuldnerinnen wurden unter Vormundschaft gestellt. So formte das Schuldenrecht Figuren wie den "bürgerlich toten Falliten" oder den formal definierten, einer gesonderten Konkursordnung unterstellten "Kaufmann" aus. Dem Rechtstrieb eignete vor seiner Vereinheitlichung im ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert eine Vielzahl von Routinen, wie am Beispiel der Schweiz - einem Labor des ökonomischen und politischen Liberalismus - gezeigt wird. Sie bestanden aus Fristen, Registern, Protokollen, verpfändetem Hausgerät, Mahnzetteln und protestierten Wechseln. Die Formen und die Metamorphosen des Rechtstriebs verkörperten so die Widersprüche des liberalen Kapitalismus. Mischa Suters Buch interveniert in die Wissensgeschichte des Ökonomischen ebenso wie in die Debatte zum historischen Kapitalismus: Es ist eine Aufforderung, Konflikt, kollidierende moralische Sichtweisen und epistemische Konfusion als Kern des Kapitalismus zu erkennen. ‎* Baron Nils Erland Herbert Nordenskiöld (* 1877 in Stockholm; ? 1932) war ein schwedischer Ethnologe und Anthropologe finnischer Abstammung. Er wurde als Sohn des berühmten finnischen Forschers Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld geboren und erhielt seine Ausbildung in Uppsala. Seine erste Forschungsreise nach Südamerika unternahm Nordenskiöld im Jahre 1899 nach Patagonien. Es folgten weitere Expeditionen durch Argentinien und Bolivien (1901?1902) sowie durch Peru und Bolivien (1904?1905). Von 1906 bis 1908 arbeitete er am Naturhistoriska riksmuseet in seiner Geburtsstadt und im Anschluss an diese Tätigkeit leitete er eine vierte Reise nach Südamerika, die ihn von 1908 bis 1909 nach Bolivien führte. 1912 wurde er mit dem Loubat Preis und der Wahlberg-Goldmedaille ausgezeichnet. Im Jahre 1913 ernannte man ihn zum Direktor der ethnographischen Abteilung des Göteborg Museum in Göteborg. Im gleichen Jahr brach er zu seiner letzten Südamerikaexpedition in die Grenzregion zwischen Brasilien und Bolivien auf. Während dieser Fahrt traf er im Regenwald den britischen Forschungsreisenden Percy Fawcett. Von seinen fünf Expeditionen brachte Erland Nordenskiöld zahlreiche Fundstücke, wie beispielsweise Pflanzen, Gesteine oder Geschenke von Einheimischen in seine Heimat, die er als Ausstellungsstücke den Museen Stockholms überließ. Erland Nordenskiöld war mit Olga Nordenskiöld verheiratet, die ihn auch auf einigen seiner Reisen begleitete.‎
