‎Guter Zustand. -- Buchtitel sind nie davor gefeit, auf den ersten mehr flüchtigen Blick mißverstanden zu werden, weil sie Erwartungen wecken können, die bei genauerer Lektüre dann doch nicht oder nur stellenweise erfüllt werden. Damit diese Gefahr hier nicht aufkommt, soll in einem knappen Vorblick das Hauptziel meiner Studie umrissen werden. -- Zunächst einmal geht es nicht um eine lückenlose Bestandsaufnahme der "modernen" Erziehungswissenschaft, sondern nur um einen bescheidenen Ausschnitt derselben. Der zur Diskussion stehende Zeitraum erstreckt sich auf das letzte Vierteljahrhundert, was freilich keine willkürliche oder zufällige Beschränkung ist, vielmehr häufen sich in dieser Phase solche Konzepte, die der Wissenschaft von der Erziehung einen wahrhaft modernen Anstrich geben wollen. Die Bezeichnung "moderne Erziehungswissenschaft" steht für ein bestimmtes Fortschrittsprogramm, und diese an der traditionellen Pädagogik gemessene Höherentwicklung soll hauptsächlich durch die Überführung der Erziehungswissenschaft in eine Sozialwissenschaft garantiert werden. -- Weit verbreitet ist der Glaube, daß sich die Erziehungswissenschaft dann und nur dann mit der Eigenschaft "modern" brüsten könne, wenn sie zu einer sozialwissenschaftlichen Disziplin ausgebaut werde. Daher betreibt man konsequent die Öffnung zu den Sozialwissenschaften, ein Vorgang, der für die Entwicklung der Erziehungswissenschaft seit ihren Anfängen im 19. Jahrhundert geradezu beispiellos ist. Die sich selbst als modern bezeichnende Erziehungswissenschaft stellt sich unter den Schutz einer Wissenschaftsgruppe, die in den zurückliegenden Jahrzehnten eine fast atemberaubende Karriere machen sollte. -- Interessant für unsere Thematik ist, daß mit der Übernahme zahlreicher sozialwissenschaftlicher Theorien und Theoriebruchstücke gleichzeitig verschiedene, miteinander konkurrierende Modelle vom Menschen in die moderne Erziehungswissenschaft eingeschleust wurden. -- Etwas von diesem Menschenbildwettstreit soll in diesem Buch eingefangen werden; denn es wird versucht, die vermeintlich wichtigsten, weil besonders einflußreichen Theoriearchitekten vorzustellen, die z. T. in ganz unterschiedlichen Bereichen wie der Wissenschaftstheorie, Rollentheorie, dem Pragmatismus und Symbolischen Interaktionismus, der Sozialphilosophie, besonderen Formen der Sozialpsychologie, aber auch der Systemtheorie verwurzelt sind. Weiterhin führen indirekte Verbindungslinien zur Psychoanalyse und zum Behaviorismus. Nimmt man dann noch jüngere Reaktionen auf bestimmte Spielarten der "modernen" Erziehungswissenschaft auf, die sich u. a. in der sogenannten "Alltagswende" nachhaltig Gehör verschaffen, so erweitert sich der Aktionsradius der Menschenbilder z. B. um Phänomenologie und die Philosophische Anthropologie. Es ist diese Fülle höchst heterogener Theorien, die der zeitgenössischen Erziehungswissenschaft ein schillerndes Menschenprofil beschert hat. -- Eine wesentliche Absicht ist es, diejenigen Menschenbilder herauszupräparieren, die den einzelnen von der Erziehungswissenschaft rezipierten Theorien zugrunde liegen. Man kann nämlich als Gewißheit aussprechen, daß allen bisweilen gegenläufigen und spannungsreichen sozialwissenschaftlichen Angängen immer schon ganz spezifische Auffassungen vom Menschen vorausliegen. Zumeist sind diese Bilder versteckt, geben sich nicht offen zu erkennen, so daß sie erst freigelegt, aus dem mehr Unbewußten ins Bewußtsein gehoben werden müssen. Die vornehmste Aufgabe wird es sein, die verborgenen Menschenmodelle zu erhellen. Bei diesem Bemühen kann man eine Reihe aufschlußreicher Beobachtungen machen, von denen ich nur drei thesenartig vorausschicke, um dadurch die Neugier des Lesers ein klein wenig zu steigern. -- Sämtliche die moderne Erziehungswissenschaft beeinflussenden sozialwissenschaftlichen Theorien operieren mit festgefaßten Anschauungen über das Menschsein, die sich in einem für wünschenswert erachtenden Menschenbild zusammenfügen lassen. So gesehen enthält jeder dieser Ansätze eine normative Anthropologie. Obwohl sich die Erziehungswissenschaft mehrere sozialwissenschaftliche Bezugspartner auserkoren hat und daher mannigfache Vorstellungen vom Menschen besitzt, wird tendenziell das Bild des rationalen Menschen favorisiert, dem Vernunftmenschen, vornehmlich in Gestalt des "Homo Sociologicus", wird eine überragende Stellung beigemessen. Insofern der rationale Mensch nahezu durchgängig als "heimliches" Ideal fungiert, ist es zulässig, von dem (einen) Menschenbild der Erziehungswissenschaft zu sprechen, wenngleich recht bunte und voneinander abweichende Porträts dieses "Urtypus" kursieren. -- Auch läßt sich nicht übersehen, daß die derzeitigen Menschenbilder der Erziehungswissenschaft im Kern häufig ältere Vorläufer haben, ohne daß man sich dessen allerdings bewußt wäre. Wir nutzen daher oft genug die Gelegenheit, um die Traditionsbedingtheit mancher "moderner" Menschenmodelle zu dokumentieren, zumal sie von dieser ihrer Herkunft her besser verstanden werden können. -- Und schließlich ist die Behauptung nicht zu hoch gegriffen, daß das Menschenbildthema in der Erziehungswissenschaft Probleme umschließt, denen sich der Mensch immer wieder neu ausgesetzt sieht - so z. B. den Fragen nach dem Verhältnis von Individuum und Gesellschaft, von Freiheit und Zwang, von Ich und Anderem, von Entfremdung und Identität, von Zerrissenheit und Versöhnung, von Körper und Geist, von Natur und Geschichte, von Sein und Schein. Das Menschenbild der Erziehungswissenschaft problematisiert geradezu existentielle Tiefenschichten unseres Daseins; letzten Endes steht hinter allem und geht durch alles hindurch die ebenso gewaltige wie rätselvolle, anscheinend nie versiegende Frage: Was ist der Mensch? Das ist bekanntlich eine philosophische Frage von ausgezeichnetem Rang - und eben deshalb ist dieses Buch auch, nicht bloß beiläufig, ein philosophisches Buch. (Vorwort) ISBN 9783534027842‎

The early Zapotecs were a sedentary group relying mostly on agricultural means to survive. They worshipped a pantheon of gods the foremost of which was Cosijo the rain god symbolized by the jaguar and the snake symbols common in Mesoamerican cultures. Religious rites sometimes included human sacrifice. Aside from the gods Zapotecs also worshipped their ancestors and emphasized the concept of death. The splendid city of Monte Alban was the Zapotecs' main cultural center the place in which their rich and fascinating civilization flourished for about 2000 years. Today Monte Alban is considered one of the most majestic cultural centers in all of Middle America. Monte Alban is a complex array of pyramids and platforms built on a mountain range overlooking the valleys. It was built in honor of the Zapotec gods and in celebration of the military victories of the Zapotec people. By 700 A.D. Monte Alban had become the capital of the Zapotec land and home to some 250000 people. The Zapotecs struggled against another mighty group the Mixtecs for control over their vast lands. By the 15th century both these groups faced another worthy adversary the Aztecs who were trying to dominate the trade routes of Chiapas and Guatemala. The Zapotecs managed to maintain political autonomy thanks mostly to their greatest king Cosijoeza. When the Spanish arrived however the whole region became subject to the their forces Today the Zapotecs are composed mostly of two groups those in the Southern mountains and those residing in the southern half of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Many elements of Zapotec culture are still ingrained in Oaxacan life influencing customs dress songs and literature. <br /><br />George McClelland Foster Jr born in Sioux Falls South Dakota on October 9 1913 died on May 18 2006 at his home in the hills above the campus of the University of California Berkeley where he served as a professor from 1953 to his retirement in 1979 when he became professor emeritus. His contributions to anthropological theory and practice still challenge us; in more than 300 publications his writings encompass a wide diversity of topics including acculturation long-term fieldwork peasant economies pottery making public health social structure symbolic systems technological change theories of illness and wellness humoral medicine in Latin America and worldview. The quantity quality and long-term value of his scholarly work led to his election to the National Academy of Sciences in 1976. Virtually all of his major publications have been reprinted and/or translated. From the library of Professor Robert "Van" Kemper First edition.<br /><br /> Miguel Othon de Mendizabal wss an educator and Mexican anthropologist who fought for agrarian reform and the welfare of the indigenous people of Mexico. He studied at the National Preparatory School and later at the National Museum of Archaeology Ethnography and History. In the National Autonomous University of Mexico UNAM worked as chief investigator in the Mezquital Valley Hidalgo state and then as director of the Institute for Social Research. He worked for the National Polytechnic Institute and head of the Laboratory of Anthropology and later became director of the Institute of Economic Research. During the administration of President Lazaro Cardenas 1934-1940 he served as advisor to the Department of Indian Affairs and director of the Workers' University. His work scattered in journals was published in six volumes under the title Collected Works 1946. He also published An Essay on the American native civilizations The Nahua chronology The evolution of the indigenous cultures of Mexico and the division of labor The evolution of northwestern Mexico Mining and Mexican metallurgy Four problems of indigenous and Agricultural developments Mezquital Valley among others. Kemper born in San Diego California on November 21 1945 resided in Dallas Texas where he was Professor of Anthropology at Southern Methodist University. He received his Ph.D. in Anthropology in 1971 from the University of California at Berkeley and spent the academic year 1971-1972 there as a National Endowment for the Humanities Post-Doctoral Fellow in Mexican American Studies before joining the SMU faculty. At SMU he served as Chair of the Department of Anthropology President of the Faculty Senate and member of the University Board of Trustees. His research interests included migration and urbanization history of anthropology community development tourism Mexico and the United States. His numerous publications include Anthropologists in Cities 1974 Migration and Adaptation: Tzintzuntzan Peasants in Mexico City 1977 Migration Across Frontiers: Mexico and the United States 1979 Chronicling Cultures: Long-Term Field Research in Anthropology 2002 and Urban Life 5th ed. 2010.
