Und wie verhält es sich mit Österreich? Ausgehend von diesen und ähnlichen nationalen Stereotypen wird das Wesen dieser Völker hinsichtlich Leistung und Macht überprüft, sodass Antworten auf diese Fragen (für 1970 bis 2003) gegeben werden können. Der großen Tradition McClellands folgend werden die Neujahrsreden der Repräsentanten der Völker (Bundespräsidenten bzw. Bundeskanzler) herangezogen und inhaltlich mit Hilfe des Thematischen Apperzeptionstests (TAT) von Murray analysiert. Beinhaltet anthropologische Beobachtungen - aus dem Nachwort: "Die dargestellten Ereignisse wurden teils in Nordamerika und teils unter den Türkistämmen Sibiriens gegen Ausgang des neunzehnten Jahrhunderts beobachtet. Die Verse des Bärenkultes gewann der Nacherzähler bruchstückweise aus dem Bericht russischer Anthropologen, der dem Amerikanistenkongreß im Jahre 1928 in New York vorgelegt wurde. Mannigfaltige Anregungen kamen mir aus wissenschaftlichen Schilderungen von Waldemar Bogoras. Die unmittelbare Quelle des Epos war: Franz Boas (Anmerkung: Boas war ein bedeutender deutsch-US-amerikanischer Ethnologe, der aus einer jüdisch-deutschen Familie stammte. Antonio Michetti (San Marino 1829 - Pesaro 1909), medico - psichiatra, seguace delle dottrine positiviste, autore di numerosi studi di medicina e psicologia. Successe a Cesare Lombroso nella direzione del Manicomio di San Benedetto di Pesaro. E’ questa l’opera più matura dove, pur riconoscendo i meriti scientifici delle teorie positiviste, ne individua i limiti in alcune posizioni assolutiste. In particolare, ai medici positivisti, pur riconoscendo il merito di avere contribuito significativamente alla conoscenza delle cause organiche della pazzia, rimprovera il difetto di collegare la funzione del pensiero alla “sola” fisiologia del cervello e del cranio. Contesta, inoltre, categoricamente che la pazzia o i comportamenti criminali si possano desumere dai tratti somatici e dalle caratteristiche fisiche. Nell’esaminare i processi di formazione del pensiero che compromettono la facoltà di operare e di giudicare nella pienezza delle personali doti dell’intelletto e nell’autonomia della volontà, si colloca in posizione di equilibrio tra le antiche e le moderne dottrine, identificando un concorso di cause organiche, attinenti alla fisiologia del cervello, e cause non organiche attinenti alla coscienza.
