Als Bürger liberaler Rechtsstaaten begreifen wir die Möglichkeit, eine Gruppe zu verlassen, der wir nicht länger angehören möchten, als Teil unseres alltäglichen Lebens. Die vorliegende Studie beschäftigt sich mit der Frage, ob bzw. in welcher Weise ein Ausstieg aus religiösen und kulturellen Gruppen möglich ist und welche Verantwortlichkeiten sich für den oder die Ausstiegswillige/n selbst, die betroffene Gruppe und vor allem den liberalen Rechtsstaat ergeben. Hintergrund sind konkrete Fälle, in denen die durch Minderheitenrechte institutionell gesicherte Autorität der kulturellen oder religiösen Gruppe für Mitglieder dieser Gruppe ein Problem wird - wie z.B. für Frauen und Mädchen, oder auch Homosexuelle, deren Lebensformen oder Überzeugungen mit den kulturellen oder religiösen Überzeugungen der Gruppe konfligieren. Infolge eines solchen Konflikts könnte ein Mitglied die Gruppe verlassen, mithin von seinem Ausstiegsrecht Gebrauch machen wollen. Sollte die Gruppe versuchen, denAusstieg zu unterbinden, läge ein Konflikt zwischen Minderheitenrechten (der Gruppe) und Grundrechten (des Individuums) vor. Der Staat hat aber, nach Auffassung liberaler PhilosophInnen, die Aufgabe, einen Ausstieg zu garantieren. Wie lässt sich dieser Konflikt lösen? Welche Maßnahmen sind im Konfliktfall geboten bzw. erlaubt? Diese Studie hinterfragt Kernkonzepte der philosophischen Debatte wie z. BORGESE, scrittore e punto di riferimento della "critica militante", si produce qui una formidabile prima serie di saggi di acuta analisi di pensatori e scrittori. Autore di un celebre saggio su D'Annunzio, ruppe irrimediabilmente con Croce dopo il saggio su Vico; sottoscrisse poi a difesa di Salvemini e divenne col tempo decisamente antifascista. Una lettura avvincente e rivelatrice.‎

Vi è qualcosa di misterioso in tale intrinseca relazione tra lacrime e sorrisi, tra tristezza dell'anima e apertura alla speranza, a cui Eugenio Borgna presta attento ascolto e dà voce, riflettendo sulla dignità della persona, sul suo valore, nelle sue varie declinazioni, umbratili e luminose. La dignità è un valore etico fondamentale ed è la fonte dei diritti umani, tuttavia è stata crudelmente lacerata nel corso della storia, non ultima da quella psichiatria che ha distinto le vite degne di essere vissute da quelle che non lo sarebbero. Il problema del rispetto dell'altro si ripropone nell'ambito della cura, al centro della quale sta la fragilità del malato, fisico o psichico, esposto alla sofferenza della malattia e all'angoscia della morte. Il discorso sulla dignità non concerne solo l'aspetto doloroso dell'ombra, riguarda anche l'attesa del futuro e dell'ignoto. Le attese altrui vanno riconosciute e rispettate, per non fare al prossimo quanto non vorremmo fosse fatto a noi. Siano esse le attese di chi sta male o di chi per qualche ragione sia vulnerabile, occorre rispettarne la fragilità e la sensibilità, le quali non potranno proteggere la dignità dai colpi inferti dalla vita, ma consentono una più acuta e umana comprensione del lato oscuro dell'essere, della parte invisibile delle cose‎
