His areas of interest are overweight, obesity and its covariates, human growth and development, indigenous health practices, bio-social studies, migration. He has completed one minor research project under UGC. Dhritiman Sharma is presently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, Rajiv Gandhi University (a central university), Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. He received his M.A. (2004) and Ph.D. (2010) degrees in Archaeological Anthropology from Gauhati University, Assam respectively. The anthology provides an overview of the nature and development processes of anthropological research in Northeast India. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Sarthak Sengupta received his M.Sc (1977) and Ph.D. (1983) degrees in Anthropology from Dibrugarh and Gauhati University respectively. He worked with the Anthropological Survey of India and North Eastern Hill University, Shillong for quite some time. Professor Sengupta in all has about 270 research articles published in various reputed national and international professional journals besides several chapters in edited volumes. Moreover, he has to his own credit twenty well-knitted books on Northeast Indian tribes. He has mentored ten number of Ph.Ds and completed several major research projects. He is an active life and executive member of several professional anthropological bodies and member of editorial boards of The Indian Journal of Anthropology, West Bengal; Bulletin of the Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University; Vision NE, Lakhimpur, Assam. Dr. Sengupta is at present Professor and Head, Department of Anthropology; and Director (i/c), Centre for Northeast Studies, Dibrugarh University, Assam. His current research interest is genetical demography, globin gene distribution, population genetics, bio-social studies, diet and nutrition, indigenous health practices and disadvantaged tribal population groups of Northeast India. Juri Borah (b 1990) is presently working as an Assistant Professor of Anthropologyat the Dibrugarh University of Assam on contractual basis. She completed her Master degree (2012) and Ph.D (2018) both f rom the Department of Anthropology, Dibrugarh University. She obtained First Class both in B.A. and M.A. Examination with specialization in Physical Anthropology from Dibrugarh University. The area of her research interests is in reproductive health, demography, dermatoglyphics, and ethnomedicine. ABOUT THE BOOK In the present book 'Anthropological Research in North East India', a total of forty four research articles were contributed by different scholars on various issues highlighting the current trends of Anthropological Research particularly in North East India. The present edited book is grouped into four sections viz Biological Anthropology, Ethno- Medicine, Socio-Cultural and Ethno-Archaeology. The present book identifies different anthropological issues, social and nutritional problems, uses and beliefs of traditional health practices followed by different ethnic groups, mother and child health condition and practices, social changes, domestic violence, political and governance, religion, ethno-archaeology, economy, monuments and so forth. North East India remained the fertile field for anthropological researchers. The future prospect of anthropological research in the region is of paramount importance and need of the hour too. In fact, the region can be considered a hotspot of Anthropologist for understanding human issues and diversity. Considering this diversity and rich human environment relationship reflected in different cultural traditions and morphological characteristics, there are prospects for academic deliberation from different perspectives. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jibon Kumar, B.Sc Hons (1st Class 1st), M.Sc (Gold Medalist) and Ph.D from Manipur University is currently working as Professor of Biological Anthropology in the Department of Anthropology, Manipur University (Central University), Canchipur Imphal. He is also looking after Centre for South East Asian Studies, Manipur University as Director for a tenure of 3 years, and also Director In-Charge of Educational Multi Media Research Centre (EMRC), Manipur University. He is also Director, Nodal Organization, Childline Imphal (A project of Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI) since 2002. Prior to his joining Manipur University in the year 1995 as Assistant Professor, he was a lecturer of Anthropology at Presidency College, Motbung (1987-1990) and Kha Manipur College (1991-1995). During his venture of academic teaching profession of last two and a half decade he has produced nine Ph.D Degree holders, published more than 50 papers in different scientific journals and books of national and international repute; participated and presented scientific papers in as many as 60 national and international seminars and conferences in the capacity of oral presenter, invited speaker, keynote speaker, chairperson, guest of honour and chief guest. Prof. Singh is the life member of as many as eight professional bodies namely ISC, IAS, IAA, INCAA, SIMA, ISHE, ASM and MLSM. He was the immediate Past Sectional President of Anthropological and Behavioural Sciences Section of 106th Indian Science Congress Held at LPU, Jalandhar, 2019 Sarit K. Chaudhuri, professor of anthropology, has worked among tribes of North-East India during last 25 years. During 2003–2005 he was in SOAS, United Kingdom, as a postdoctoral fellow and worked for a collaborative project with SOAS, British Museum, CCRD, and Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh. He worked in An.S.I., Shillong. He also taught in the department of Anthropology, Rajiv Gandhi University, Arunachal Pradesh for more than 18 years. He is currently holding the post of Director, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, (Government of India, Ministry of Culture) Bhopal. He has published 9 books and over 52 papers in journals and books. Huidrom Suraj Singh (M.Sc., Ph,.D.,) is Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal. He is known for his contribution to anthropological research work in different ethnic groups of India. He has worked on noncommunicable diseases and its causes among different populations of North-East India. His interest is the epidemiological studies of non-communicable diseases and its associated risk factors (both environment and genetics) in tribal and non-tribal population of North-East India in general and Manipur in particular. First edition. <br /><br />A few general observations on the contents of Gesammelte Abhandlungen are in order. Altogether the set includes 127 separate articles. Most were originally published in such well-known outlets of the 1887-1919 period as <em>ZeitschriJt jilr Ethnologie Globus Science Internationales Archiv filr Ethnographie Ethnologisches Notisblatt Mittheilungen der Anthropologischen Gesellschajt in Wien Verojentlichungen aus dem Kdniglichen Museum filr Volkerkunde</em> Berlin and the proceedings of the various International Congresses of Americanists held during these years. Occasionally these articles on being reprinted in the various volumes of <em>Gesammelte Abhundlungen</em> were substantially enlarged and revised by their author.</p><p>A few of the most important papers were written especially for these volumes such as his well-known translations with copious notes of the Sahaguntine chants to the gods Vol. I his classic account of Tarascan culture at Contact Vol. III and his important descriptions of the ruins of La Quemada Vol. III and Teotihuacan Vol. V. Breaking them down into categories to illustrate again the great breadth of Seler's scholarly labors approximately 10 are devoted to studies of the Mexican codices 3 to Mexican calendrics 20 to Maya hieroglyphic writing and calendrics 3 to mythology 2 to general Mesoamerican linguistics 29 to analyses of archaeological objects or groups of objects 13 to descriptions always well illustrated of major ruins 6 to accounts of archaeological travels 14 to what might be called "general ethnohistory" 4 to direct translations of Nahuatl texts 3 to recent ethnography 3 to Conquest history I to geography and 4 on miscellaneous topics. In addition to this coverage of Mesoamerican matters which consumes the vast bulk of the volumes 4 articles deal with North America 3 with Central America and 5 with South America Andean region. The small number of articles specifically concerned with Mexican codices does not accurately reflect Seler's contribution to this field since as stated above his major works here were long monographs each thoroughly analyzing a major surviving specimen. Qual è l’oggetto dell’antropologia? Nello studiare i costumi, le mitologie, i totem e i feticci delle culture lontane dalle nostre, l’antropologia del secolo scorso ha sempre nutrito la convinzione che l’oggetto della propria ricerca fosse l’uomo. È questo presupposto che Eduardo Viveiros de Castro vuole mettere radicalmente in questione: i mondi in cui vivono molti dei popoli del continente americano sono più fittamente popolati, irriducibili al mondo umano, e d’altronde ciò che è umano non è mai del tutto distinto da ciò che non è umano. Umani e animali (ma anche spiriti, fenomeni climatici e molte delle cose che noi consideriamo «inanimate») possiedono un’unica soggettività comune. Se l’evoluzionismo ha ormai insegnato all’Occidente che gli esseri umani sono animali, la cosmologia amazzonica ci fa capire in che senso gli animali possono essere umani. Con questa vertiginosa proposta metafisica, molto vicina ai «mille piani» di Gilles Deleuze, e più in generale a molte delle filosofie «anti-cartesiane» del Novecento, Viveiros de Castro si pone come capofila della «svolta ontologica» nell’antropologia contemporanea.
