John Ford e il cinema americano. Ovvero la rimozione di Dioniso
br. Ne "La nascita della tragedia", Friedrich Nietzsche indica in Dioniso e Apollo le figure in cui si condensano i due aspetti principali della realtà: un fondo caotico da cui lo sguardo trae forme armoniche, che conferiscono al caos un ordine - insieme compiuto e provvisorio. Osservata da questa prospettiva, la settima arte risulta arte tragica per eccellenza. Non tutto il cinema, tuttavia, mantiene il medesimo rapporto con la profonda irrazionalità del reale: a Hollywood, a partire dai primi decenni del XX secolo, è cresciuta una prevalente tendenza (socratico-platonica, direbbe Nietzsche) alla rimozione di Dioniso. Il rapporto problematico che il cinema statunitense ha sempre mantenuto con l'irrappresentabilità del reale trova in John Ford, il più affidabile dei registi hollywoodiani, la sua espressione più piena e interessante. Interessante anche e soprattutto per la valenza culturale che il cinema fordiano assume come mito di fondazione americano condensato in immagine.

Il sociale non indica infatti un dominio specifico, ma un movimento di riassociazione e riassemblaggio in perenne mutamento. Partendo dalle recenti intuizioni degli studi scientifici, Latour espande il significato di "sociale" per applicarlo agli umani e alle società moderne, così come a coralli, babbuini, alberi, api, formiche e balene, nel tentativo di perseguire una nuova "scienza della convivenza" che tenga conto della coesistenza di "elettori ed elettroni, ONG e OGM". L'ipotesi di Latour è che non si possono comprendere le posizioni politiche degli ultimi cinquant'anni se non si attribuisce un posto centrale alla questione del clima e della sua negazione, di cui Donald Trump non è che il simbolo più conosciuto. È questo che spiega l'esplosione delle ineguaglianze, l'ampiezza della deregulation, la crescita del populismo. Politica come movimento. Il pensiero di Herbert Marcuse

Il nome di Herbert Marcuse (1898-1979) è legato alle vicende dei movimenti antisistemici degli anni Sessanta e Settanta, ma il nesso profondo che esiste tra il suo attivismo politico e i presupposti filosofici della sua attività di ricerca è stato finora poco indagato. Un'analisi più attenta rivela che il rapporto con quei movimenti è largamente implicito in una riflessione filosofica che, fin dai suoi esordi, ha sempre cercato di pensare la politica come "movimento". Il volume delinea lo sviluppo di questa concezione della politica attraverso un esame sistematico dell'ampia produzione scientifica di Marcuse, dai testi più noti agli interventi più marcatamente politici degli anni Sessanta e Settanta, fino ai numerosi materiali pubblicati postumi.

br. In trentadue anni - tra il 1900 (primo articolo sui quanti di Planck) e il 1932 (formulazione rigorosa della teoria da parte di von Neumann) - il mondo è cambiato come mai prima di allora. Non la fisica: il mondo. Fino ad allora tutte le scoperte e le teorie scientifiche avevano messo sotto la lente angoli nascosti della realtà, troppo piccoli o troppo grandi per essere osservati, troppo veloci o troppo lenti per essere descritti. Ma la realtà era sempre lì, non era messa in discussione: solo si dimostrava più elusiva del previsto, ma in definitiva sempre conoscibile. Il trentennio dei quanti - e la lunga, magnifica ed epica disputa tra Einstein e Bohr - ha rotto completamente gli schemi: se la meccanica quantistica è corretta (e lo è), allora la realtà, là fuori, non è compiutamente descrivibile. Nemmeno in linea di principio. Abbiamo sbagliato qualcosa (come voleva Einstein) e le cose si risolveranno? O non abbiamo sbagliato niente (come voleva Bohr) e semplicemente dobbiamo rinunciare alla descrizione completa del mondo (che per quanto ne sappiamo, potrebbe anche non esserci)? Domande pesantissime, che la fisica ha imposto all'indagine filosofica.

Fine and clean. � First edition of Laue's importent paper in which he gives an experimental proof of the non-addition and non-subtraction phenomena in respect of the velocity of light. - Laue was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1914.<br><br>"Einstein�s special theory of relativity dispensed with the addition or subtraction of the velocities hitherto assumed to be self-evident and applied instead a special "addition theorem." In 1907 Laue demonstrated that this theorem readily yields Fizeau�s formula with the previously enigmatic Fresnel drag coefficient: u = c/n � v1 - 1/n2. Laue thereby furnished Einstein�s theory with an important experimental proof which along with the Michelson-Morley experiment and arguments from group theory contributed to early acceptance of the theory. Having thus proved himself an expert in relativity theory in 1910 Laue wrote the first monograph on the subject. ill., br. Per secoli abbiamo trascurato lo scheletro delle città. Abbiamo costruito senza chiederci se la struttura potesse reggere il peso dei nuovi ritmi di vita, gli sviluppi della storia. Abbiamo continuato a seguire le tortuose linee tramandate dal nostro retaggio. Il risultato è stato un caotico accumulo di case e vie che rischiava di far collassare su se stesso il corpo complessivo dei centri abitati. Bisognava cambiare direzione: comprendere che le strade in cui ci muoviamo, i palazzi in cui lavoriamo, gli edifici in cui abitiamo non sono oggetti morti e irrigiditi, ma pulsano di vita, imprimono tracce indelebili sulle nostre anime. La città deve essere contemporanea a se stessa, e renderla tale è un compito sacro, cui non possiamo sottrarci. Come per ogni grande impresa, però, serve un metodo saldo, una scienza affidabile, uno sguardo in grado di abbracciare il tutto: serve l'urbanistica. È tra le complesse tessiture di questa disciplina che ci ha portato Le Corbusier. Sovrano indiscusso del Movimento moderno, elogiato da Einstein, acclamato non solo come pioniere dell'urbanistica contemporanea, ma come ultimo grande umanista, ha segnato un punto di non ritorno nella storia dell'architettura del xx secolo, e dell'arte in generale. In Urbanistica - un testo pubblicato a puntate sulla rivista L'Espritnouveau dal 1924 e ora restituito al lettore italiano dal Saggiatore -Le Corbusier, tecnico e poetico, ieratico e appassionato, proclama i fondamenti ideologici, teorici e metodologici della grande rivoluzione in architettura. La sfida è progettare città e edifici fatti per l'uomo e a misura d'uomo, capaci di rispondere alle esigenze della vita collettiva e individuale, che beneficino delle «gioie essenziali» - il sole, lo spazio e il verde -, che facciano giocare in modo sapiente, corretto e magnifico i volumi sotto la luce. Bando alle tristi composizioni che logorano i corpi e mortificano gli animi: al centro del pensiero di Le Corbusier stanno i telamoni del rigore geometrico, della sezione aurea, della statistica, del rapporto tra uniformità del particolare e dinamicità dell'insieme, della media proporzionale tra fattore umano e natura. Per realizzare la simbiosi perfetta tra noi e lo spazio che abitiamo.
