‎L'epistemologia genetica‎

‎br. Jean Piaget (1896-1980) è universalmente noto come il fondatore della psicologia dell'intelligenza. Tuttavia la sua pur titanica opera nel campo della psicologia è solo una parte del suo progetto di epistemologia genetica, l'impresa interdisciplinare e transdisciplinare più importante che il XX secolo abbia conosciuto. La sua originalità consiste nell'estendere l'ambito di indagine dell'epistemologia a tutti gli stadi evolutivi della conoscenza, non limitandosi a quelli geneticamente più compiuti, come è quello della conoscenza scientifica. Suo oggetto di studio non è cioè soltanto la conoscenza scientifica, ma anche le varie manifestazioni storiche della conoscenza scientifica, la conoscenza pre-scientifica che è solidale alle strutture mentali dell'adulto e del bambino, nonché l'insieme di condizioni biologiche, fisiche e sociali che rendono possibile lo sviluppo di tali strutture. Piaget ha studiato la storia della conoscenza all'interno della storia naturale e ha proposto due radicali cambiamenti di prospettiva nello studio dei processi cognitivi e dei processi evolutivi: uno nel modo di studiare la conoscenza umana, tramite lo studio della sua genesi naturale, sociale e individuale; e un altro nel modo di intendere l'idea stessa di evoluzione, che ha aperto la strada ai recenti studi sui sistemi autoorganizzatori e complessi.
