A sort of account book of the loves and losses of a young man from 1943 to 1947 the notebook meticulously notes girls� names contact information what they did on the dates movies seen diners visited parties attended etc. and a brief assessment of each date �enjoyable� �she likes to talk� �never enjoyed dancing so much� �no comment� �alright� �it�s slow but sure�. This teenage Casanova was almost certainly a University of California student he has a car which he regularly parks on the Berkeley campus. The diary documents a stream of girls and a large part of the text describes the rise and fall of an extended romance with �Marilyn.� For example: �If we were a bit older one would say that we�re engaged.� And: �Undoubtedly she�d have enjoyed herself more with a trained dog � which I�m not!� And eventually: �At long last the embers have turned black!� The diary concludes on Sept. 12 1946 when the author is 19 years old and closes somewhat philosophically: �Thus I end this the first report on girls that I know or in many cases have known. I close with the realization that my search is not yet over. And so I look forward to new faces and new loves.� One of the more remarkable vernacular histories we've encountered a fascinating look at romantic mores during the sociological dawn of the Teenager. paperback

First edition of this very rare pamphlet on birth control issued by the notorious mail-order erotica publisher Falstaff Press which specialized in republishing many of the Panurge anthropological titles including titles on sexuality sexual disorders birth control eugenics phallic worship scientific sexualia and flagellation. Most of these titles were written by some of the most significant anthropologists and sociologists working in the new and growing field of sexual sciences in the 1930s including Hirschfeld Reclus Niemoeller and Rohleder. Solomon Malkin was a young New York University scholar who had studied under Magnus Hirschfeld at the Institute for Sexual Science in Berlin and oversaw the choosing of illustrations and text for the birth control pamphlets. This work details the very unreliable “Rhythm Method†of contraception depending on the charting of menstrual cycles however notes that this is has only 50% effectiveness and should be combined with artificial birth control methods. Four matching numbered three ring binders with several additional binders and manila envelopes of supporting materials drafts xeroxed duplicates etc. Various media most pencil on typing or tracing paper some collage. Hundreds of pages in all. Very good with occasional dried presumed ejaculatory material to some pages perhaps a dozen or so posing small conservational issues relative to the size of the archive. <br/><br/>A personally-tailored series of pornographic fantasies that portrays all of the women with whom the artist had been sexually involved whether in reality or � it seems - in his imagination throughout his life. Arranged chronologically and with a table of contents detailing the biographical and sexual particulars of each subject the creator of these binders traced and collaged images from magazines and other sources including in at least several cases original photos to re-create these women in simulacra finding look-alikes from magazines pasting the heads of these women on the bodies of others. To these rather obsessive assemblages the artist has added graphic and often exhaustive texts: describing scenes providing dialogue elaborating on biographical details. In short an uncensored and almost narrative history of one man's sexual fantasies. And while these books were undoubtedly utilized primarily for masturbatory purposes they were also made with obvious care over the course of what appears to be several decades. The artist composed them with an eye finely attuned to the visual effects he was creating. Almost two dozen individual women in all arranged in tabbed sections over four binders. Many hundreds of pages of sketches and text total. In addition source materials for the tracings and collages are included as are numerous xeroxes of the final results. Admittedly this collection is one of the most unsettling items we've handled. But it is also one of the most compelling. Henry Darger meets Raymond Pettibon: dark weird and twisted. But the work of an authentically original outsider one who has given a powerful and unique rendering of his erotic world. unknown

There is one small spot of discoloration to the spine of the dust jacket. "The Rape of the APE is a book by Allan Sherman published in July 1973 by Playboy Press regarding sex and its historical repression and resurgence in the United States. The "A. P. E." on the title is a play on the words "ape" and the "American Puritan Ethic". The book was the subject of much publicity when it appeared due to both its subject and author. Despite his ill health at the time Sherman went on a two-week media tour to promote The Rape and appeared on many radio shows. He died on November 20 1973 just four months after the book was published." . Playboy Press hardcover
