Overall this would be a very attractive book on your shelf with few external signs of its ex-library status. Pages predominantly clean I noticed only two or three small smudges; one short closed edge tear in margin; and two pages with odd short tears about 1" that do not reach the edge of the page; but all in all better than average condition. Library depredations include tape and pocket at front plus front endpaper removal adhesive marks inside covers and tapemarks to boards the usual stamps. Dust jacket is priceclipped somewhat worn at extremities sunned on spine 1/2" chip at head of spine filled by library with colour-matched paper spine label. Short crack to paper at front hinge no effect on book's stability. Overall a sturdy reading copy of a hard-to-find book. "The last book that E. Nesbit wrote has always been a favourite with children. The wonderful escapades that the family got up to are just the sort of adventures that anyone would have loved. Of course they were not very kind to Madeline to begin with. But later they knew her much better." The book also contains the two fantasy short stories The Last of the Dragons and Princess Zuleika of Rosyposia. We have a number of E. Nice sharp corners very minimal shelfwear. Clean exterior interior shows typical library abuses. Adhesive stains on inside covers removal of front endpaper and inkstamps about covers the damage. Dust jacket is bright clean NO spine label unclipped. Reverse has a couple tape pulls but right side looks perfect. The author is a winner of the Carnegie award twice and the Esther Glen award from New Zealand - 4 times. This collection of 9 short stories billed by the publisher as designed to appeal to young teenagers is an amazing assortment of mythical fiction with profound insight into human life. My favourite story was "A Work of Art" in part a fable about mindfulness in the humble tasks of daily life and in part a deft parody of overpretentious art critics: a mother lovingly bakes a cake and finds herself the toast of the art world.
