STRANGE FANTASY ed. Sol Cohen
Strange Fantasy no 11 but really no 4
Ultimate Publishing: NY 1970. First edition & 1st printing. Digest magazine. Issue 11 but actually no 4. Six issues were published of this reprint magazine between 1969-1970. The first issue dated Spring 1969 is numbered no 8 and the next five issues numbered no 9 - no 13 final issue Fall 1970. The odd numbering is because the first issue ''was mailed to subscribers of SCIENCE FICTION CLASSICS'' and followed the seventh issue of that magazine but was clearly not meant as a substitute for that title. The contents were totally different and in fact an eighth issue of SCIENCE FICTION CLASSICS followed soon after''. See Ashley/Tymn: Science Fiction Fantasy And Weird Fiction Magazines pp. 621. Gillings Walter ed FANTASY REVIEW
Fantasy Review/Science-Fantasy Review 17 of 18 issues published
Walter Gillings: Ilford Essex 1950. First editions. Stapled pictorial wrappers. 17 of the 18 issues published 1947-1950 of the UK sf fanzine comprising reviews articles and news missing just the second issue. A continuation of the earlier ''Scientifiction - The British Fantasy Review'' which Gillings had edited a decade earlier 1937: seven issues total but with a new name. Scarce early British sf fanzine/magazine. Octavo eighteen issues pictorial self wrappers stapled. Professionally printed as a neat twenty-page booklet later growing to thirty-two and even forty pages it was edited with Gillings' usual polish. Gillings also wrote most of the contents often under such pen names as ''Thomas Sheridan'' and ''Geoffrey Giles'' and the magazine contains an immense amount of news of all kinds as well as intelligent reviews and criticism. It was certainly the most mature news magazine British fandom had produced and it is still one of the most elaborate of its kind.'' Tymn and Ashley Science Fiction Fantasy and Weird Fiction Magazines pp. 824-25. Some rusting of staples a near fine to fine set. #131684 $250.00. Some rusting to staples a VG/VG set overall the worst copy being the first issue which has edge loss to the first two pages due to what looks like rodent nibbling .
