<p>In original tan printed wrappers 55 pp. and very large folding color soil survey map of Albemarle County at rear. The map based on U. S. Geological Survey topographic coverage shows cultural details individual buildings roads railroads etc. in addition to soil types and distribution within the region necessary for delineating important and desirable agricultural areas. Descriptions and characteristics of soil classifications shown on the map are provided in the report together with information about principal and lesser crops grown at the time of the survey. An early edition and possibly the first soil survey of Albemarle County. Later soil surveys provide more maps and finer details but lack the visual appeal simplicity and historical content of this earlier large color map.</p><p>Condition: Complete as issued. Ex-library with ink stamp and call numbers on front wrapper else the booklet is internally clean with no other markings. Removed from bound volume with roughness and chipping to wrappers along the bound edge loose or detaching pages and stitch holes along the left margin not affecting the map. The map has a couple of short opening tears and is bright crisp and clean.</p> Government Printing Office paperback

This book is based on the outcome of the doctoral study aimed to investigate the use of energy and its efficiency in rural areas particularly dryland agriculture in Tamil Nadu. It covers a cross-section analysis of four categories of farmers (marginal, small, medium and large), two major pattern of crop production (irrigated and unirrigated) and two types of operations (bullock operated and tractor operated) in Tamil Nadu. Further, it enumerates the energy sources used for different crops and its end-uses viz, human, animal, mechanical, chemical and electrical. It examins the impacts of energy inputs and outputs of selected crops of dryland areas and to recommend sustainable energy management strategies needed for carrying out agricultural operations by using alternate and renewable energy sources. About The Author:- R. Murugesan, Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad. Bestowed by the hamlet, he was inspired by the Gandhigram Rural Institute that affiliated him with various development activities and ignited him to join as Assistant Director in the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), an autonomous organisation of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, in 1993. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Climate change has emerged as a major challenge to our agriculture, indeed to the management of our economy as a whole. The immediate problems that our farmers face relate to intra-seasonal variability of rainfall, extreme events and unseasonal rains. These aberrations cause heavy losses to our crops every year. There is therefore an urgent necessity for us to devise appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies for gearing up our efforts to evolve climateresilient crop varieties, cropping patterns and water management practices for ensuring food security, enhancing livelihood opportunities and contributing to economic stability at the national level. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Climate change has emerged as a major challenge to our agriculture, indeed to the management of our economy as a whole. The immediate problems that our farmers face relate to intra-seasonal variability of rainfall, extreme events and unseasonal rains. These aberrations cause heavy losses to our crops every year. There is therefore an urgent necessity for us to devise appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies for gearing up our efforts to evolve climateresilient crop varieties, cropping patterns and water management practices for ensuring food security, enhancing livelihood opportunities and contributing to economic stability at the national level. Robust mechanisms to strengthen interactions between agricultural scientists and our farmers and also ensure better convergence between research and developmental needs. This book is an attempt to study and analyse the functioning of the State Level Public Enterprises (SLPEs) in India. The book is based on a study completed for the Department of Public Enterprises, Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India, New Delhi and Planning Commission, Government of India, New Delhi. The book covers all the States and some Union Territories. The information contained in the book has been culled out from primary and secondary sources. The book presents an executive summary in its first few pages. This is followed by a macro analysis of the functioning of these SLPEs in India. The analysis is based on the data collected on a few vital parameters for the period 1990-91 to 2004-05. The parameters range from total investment, typology, capital employed, net worth and total resources to total revenue, net profits / losses, accumulated losses and total impact on state finances. A survey of restructuring and privatisation has also been incorporated as a part of analysis. The macro analysis is followed by state-wise analysis of the SLPEs. This analysis includes the position of the SLPRs in each state with regard to there financial profile, sectoral classification, budgetary support, social safety net, and problems and issues.
