‎Energy Use Efficiency in Dryland Agriculture [Hardcover]‎

‎While energy is a crucial input in the process of crop production, use of more and efficient energy facilitates life and helps mankind making it comfortable. This book is based on the outcome of the doctoral study aimed to investigate the use of energy and its efficiency in rural areas particularly dryland agriculture in Tamil Nadu. It covers a cross-section analysis of four categories of farmers (marginal, small, medium and large), two major pattern of crop production (irrigated and unirrigated) and two types of operations (bullock operated and tractor operated) in Tamil Nadu. Further, it enumerates the energy sources used for different crops and its end-uses viz, human, animal, mechanical, chemical and electrical. It examins the impacts of energy inputs and outputs of selected crops of dryland areas and to recommend sustainable energy management strategies needed for carrying out agricultural operations by using alternate and renewable energy sources. About The Author:- R. Murugesan, Ph.D. from the University of Hyderabad. Bestowed by the hamlet, he was inspired by the Gandhigram Rural Institute that affiliated him with various development activities and ignited him to join as Assistant Director in the National Institute of Rural Development (NIRD), an autonomous organisation of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, in 1993. He also acquired Master of Business Administration and L.L.B., while in service. Murugesan has a rich experience in conducting training programs, thematic seminars, workshops for the rural development functionaries and policy research studies on the subjects. He has written several articles on sustainability of rural development programs, rural management, technology transfer, self and wage employments, panchayats finances and resource management etc. Murugesan faced a number of interesting questions and arguments with various scholars having relevance to rural energy and agricultural scientists that become the main source of inspiration for this book. Contents:- Contents, Foreword, Preface, Acknowledgements, List of Tables and Figures, Glossary, 1. Introduction, 2. Energy and Agriculture ; The Conceptual, Context, 3. Methods and Classification of Energy, 4. Socio-Economic and Farmholding Practices, 5. Energy Use Pattern in Dryland Areas, 6. The Influence of Energy Input, 7. ‎Water Management and Climate Smart Agriculture Volume 3 Vols. Set [Hardcover] Volume 3 Vols. Set‎

‎ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Climate change has emerged as a major challenge to our agriculture, indeed to the management of our economy as a whole. The immediate problems that our farmers face relate to intra-seasonal variability of rainfall, extreme events and unseasonal rains. These aberrations cause heavy losses to our crops every year. There is therefore an urgent necessity for us to devise appropriate adaptation and mitigation strategies for gearing up our efforts to evolve climateresilient crop varieties, cropping patterns and water management practices for ensuring food security, enhancing livelihood opportunities and contributing to economic stability at the national level. Robust mechanisms to strengthen interactions between agricultural scientists and our farmers and also ensure better convergence between research and developmental needs. The research papers in the proceedings of National Seminar on Water Management and Climatic Smart Agriculture is reviewing the current climate change policy responses fall short of addressing the realities of poor rural farmers who are the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and paint an alternative way forward by defining innovative techno-economic-eco-resilient strategies to overcome the gaps of contemporary mitigation and adaptation programmes in agriculture by bringing to the fore the actual priorities, needs, and knowledge of farming communities themselves and suggest suitable recommendations to farming community and Government organizations to look far and wide in our agricultural research system and will succeed in delivering the national goals on agricultural productivity whatever be the odds. ‎Water Management and Climate Smart Agriculture Volume Vol. 1st [Hardcover] Volume Vol. 1st‎
