I progressi tecnici nell'ambito della macro fotografia permettono oggi più facilmente con un po' di esperienza e con una buona attrezzatura di illustrare con la tecnica digitale dei campioni anche di dimensioni inferiori al millimetro. Ho cercato di completare il frutto di 35 anni di ricerche personali, con i migliori ritrovamenti degli altri appassionati. Ho cercato quindi di riunire i campioni più rappresentativi che sono stati scoperti nei monti livornesi per ogni specie contattando anche i collezionisti che conoscevo che da anni setacciano il territorio raccogliendo dei piccoli tesori che si sono accumulati nelle rispettive collezioni. Lo spazio in questo libro è limitato, quindi sono stati privilegiati nelle foto i minerali cristallizzati che hanno un certo interesse visivo o scientifico.

Toscana. Minerali di uranio a Livorno
brossura Nel corso dell'anno 2020 durante una delle numerose escursioni di ricerca di nuovi microminerali, mi sono imbattuto in un nuovo affioramento mineralizzato. Vedendo dei piccoli cristallini di un colore giallo-verde molto acceso che spiccavano tra altri verdi brillanti, ho immediatamente capito di aver trovato qualcosa di interessante. Questo minerale osservato al microscopio, mi ha subito ricordato le miche di uranio. Ho effettuato in seguito un test di fluorescenza con lampada UV long wave senza successo. Mi sono quindi convinto che effettivamente non poteva essere possibile che fosse un minerale di uranio a Livorno. Cosciente comunque del fatto di aver rinvenuto qualcosa di interessante, ho spedito per analisi alcuni campioni ed anche altri piccoli cristalli dallo stesso ritrovamento. A grande sorpresa i risultati hanno confermato finora ben 5 minerali radioattivi. I cristallini colore giallo-verde, che avevano attirato subito la mia attenzione, appartengono ad un raro vanadato di uranio e rame, la sengierite, poi ci sono tre fosfati di uranio, la torbernite, la metatorbernite e la bassetite, l'uraninite in rari cristalli ed anche nella varietà pechblenda. Insieme a questi ho rinvenuto anche la volborthite, la wulfenite e la piromorfite, tutte prime segnalazioni per la regione.
