Edinburgh: W H Lizars 1843 A good to very good copy of the 1st edition of the final volume in Jardine's Naturalist's Library in the original publisher's binding. This volume covers seagulls and ducks among others. With volume listing; black and white frontispiece portrait of Wilson; black and white vignette title page of seagulls; 2 further title pages; publisher's advert; contents listing; Memoir of Alexander Wilson; text with black and white illustrations; directions for the binder; and 31 hand coloured plates. A set of title pages for the entire series is also bound in. This was done in case subscribers wanted to rebind their sets using title pages with the same date - 1843. The binding is in very good condition with light sunning and a small mark to the spine and very light wear to boards. Corners and edges have light wear. The original green endpapers are present and are unmarked. The contents are clean with light toning to the text pages. The gather at p307 has slightly loose stitching. Edinburgh: W H Lizars A very good copy of a scarce title from the Naturalist's Library in the original decorative cloth binding with black and white frontispiece hand-coloured vignette title page and 30 further hand coloured plates. This copy is undated but is the Lizars 'Popular Edition' circa 1845. Advances in printing meant that the Naturalists' Library could be reissued at less cost so this edition retains the plates and text from the first. The red cloth binding has gilt decoration and blind stamped design to the front board and gilt decoration and titles to the spine. It has been rebacked and the cloth polished at the same time so it is very bright and clean. There is light corner wear. The original endpapers have been retained with reinforcement at the joint in cloth matching the boards. There is a pencil signature to the fep. Contents: frontispiece with tissue guard; hand coloured vignette title; title; contents list; memoir; and text 277 pp with 30 hand coloured plates. Contents are in very good to near fine condition. In Vol I plate 22 has been bound the wrong way so the top of a bird's head is trimmed and there is also a small piece missing from the gutter which does not affect the image. In Vol III plate 13 has slight loss to one edge. In Vol IV the plate paper is lightly toned and in some plates the rough edge between plates on the original plate paper is showing. Contents: volume listing; half title; black and white frontispiece portrait of William Smellie with tissue guard; hand coloured vignette title page showing a robin; 2 further title pages; publisher's advert; contents listing; Memoir of William Smellie; text with black and white illustrations and 30 hand coloured plates bound at the rear. The original binding has been rebacked relaying the original spine and is sound and tight. There is light scuffing to the boards which have wear to corners with some cloth loss and fading towards the edges. New endpapers have been added. EDINBURGH: W H LIZARS 1834 A good to very good copy of the 1st edition of Volume I of Gallinaceous Birds covering varieties of domestic and wild fowl eg turkeys pheasants in the publisher's brown cloth binding. With black and white frontispiece portrait of Aristotle; hand coloured vignette title page with a picture of a cockerel; 2 further title pages; contents listing; Memoir of Aristotle; and text with black and white illustrations and 30 hand coloured plates. 29 plates are listed in the contents index but there are 2 versions of plate 18. 32pp of advertisements and a 4 page yellow geographical works advert at the rear. The cloth binding is in good condition being clean with light fading to the spine. The spine has some pulling and the bottom corners are bumped. There is small indentation to the top edge of the front board. The original green watermarked endpapers are present. Contents are very clean and some text is unopened. The frontispiece lacks its tissue guard. Stitching is visible at some points and slgihtly wobbly. W H LIZARS hardcover

Edinburgh: W H Lizars 1843 A good copy of the 1st edition of Sun-Birds from Jardine's Naturalists' Library in the original brown cloth binding. With hand-coloured vignette title page and 30 hand-coloured plates at the rear. Sun-Birds is one of the scarcer titles in the series. The binding has been rebacked relaying the original spine so it is sound and tight. There is slight fading to edges and some corner bumping but overall the binding is in very good condition. New endpapers. Contents: volume listing; frontispiece portrait of Willoughby; vignette title page; 2 further title pages; advert; contents; text and 30 plates at the rear. There is no plate numbered 28 but there are 2 different versions of plate 29. The text pages are very brown-toned particularly at the top and side margin. The odd corner has been turned over. The plate paper is also toned although less than the text. There is some marking around the margins of plates. Plate 21 has an old crease at the top corner. Edinburgh: W H Lizars 1834 A fair copy of the 1st edition in the original publisher's cloth binding with 30 hand coloured plates of game birds. With half title; black and white frontispiece portrait of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles; hand coloured vignette title page with red grouse; 2 further title pages; advert; contents listing; Memoir of Raffles; text with 30 hand coloured plates; and publisher's catalogue bound at the rear. The binding is in very good condition with bright gilt title label and only slight sunning to the spine and a couple of very faint small marks to the back board. The original endpapers are present. The contents are generally clean but the stitching is beginning to fail so the book is currently sound but some sections are wobbly and it will require repair at some point. There is no tissue-guard between the frontispiece and the vignette title page so there is some spotting to both. Otherwise plates are clean and text is generally clean with some toning to edges and the occasional light mark. W H Lizars hardcover

The binding is very clean. It has slight fading to the spine and very slight bumping to corners. The original endpapers are present. The contents are very clean and bright with lwell- coloured plates. There is some light spotting to frontispiece and vignette title page and some offsetting from the plates to the tissue-guards.
