Pp. xvi 327 6 ads; 20 full page hand-colored lithograph plates after Sowerby. Publisher's original pictorial forest green pebble cloth spine is lettered in gilt with gilt floral decorations the front board has a gilt vignette of a turtle square 12mo 17 x 14 cm. Sowerby was a noted conchologist and zoologist specializing in marine biology. The work describes various sea creatures both animals and plants that can be placed in a sea-water aquarium. This volume was published only three years after P. H. Gosse published his ground-breaking work inventing the concept of the aquarium. No ownership marks and almost no signs of use.
