En bas à dte, un graffiti caricaturant sans doute le duc d’Orléans vu de profil, et une autre figure, schématiquement tracée, représentant une tête casquée de profil (sur un corps sommairement dessiné)‎

‎iconographie:Dans une cour fermée par un muret décoré de deux vases, une ronde d’enfants se tenant la main tourne autour d’un haut monument commémoratif en forme de parallélépipède (un ressaut en arc de cercle a été ménagé dans le muret pour permettre de faire le tour du monument). Il s’agit en réalité des ministres, représentés avec leurs traits d’adulte mais avec une taille d’enfant. Depuis le fond à gche, vers le fond à dte, prennent place Lobau (vêtu d’une robe à rayures violettes, portant un chapeau en papier surmonté d’un panache tricolore. Une seringue à clystère est accrochée à son vêtement), Persil, Dupin (portant tous deux un couvre-chef rouge à pompon), Barthe (couvert de la coiffe de magistrat), le duc d’Orléans, d’Argout, Soult (dans ses habits de maréchal. Des croix d’honneur sont accrochées à ses bottes), Louis-Philippe (avec des sabots), Guizot (dont le corsage blanc est décoré de petites poires), trois personnages de dos non identifiables, Madier de Montjau (portant un pantalon jaune, et représenté très grand même enfant), et enfin Henri de Rigny. En ht du monument se trouvent des jouets et accessoires d’enfants en rapport avec le thème militaire : des cocottes en papier, un canon et un petit soldat de plomb. La pl. se moque de l’assurance qu’a le gouvernement français lors du siège de la citadelle d’Anvers par l’armée française (dirigée par le maréchal Gérard), en Belgique, face aux troupes hollandaises (siège du 15 novembre au 23 décembre). Monument commémoratif par anticipation. La pl. dénonce cette guerre meurtrière qui tua de nombreux soldats français, mais aussi bon nombre de civils belges. Grandville critique l’irresponsabilité des membres du gouvernement qui envisagent la guerre comme un jeu, sans avoir conscience des conséquences désastreuses.Personnages représentés:Mouton, Georges, comte de Lobau; Louis-Philippe Ier, roi des Français; Dupin, André Marie Jean-Jacques (dit Dupin aîné); Gauthier de Rigny, Henri, comte; Madier de Montjau, Joseph Paulin; Barthe, Félix; Persil, Jean-Charles; Soult, Nicolas-Jean de Dieu; Guizot, François; Orléans, Ferdinand-Philippe d', duc; Argout, Antoine Maurice Apollinaire d', baron Remise de 20% pour toutes commandes égales ou supérieures à 100 €‎

There is a black mark on the front free end paper presumably obscuring a previous owner's name and price but no other marks or wear. The red cloth covers are fresh with just a touch of wear at edges and corners. The gilt spine lettering is still shiny. The dust jacket by Lynton Lamb is also in very good onditon with light wear and chips. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover and looks attractive. Synopsis: The book is "about a well-to-do middle-aged widower with his debutante daughter and a widow of the same age with her grown-up son and six-year-old daughter.
