Ex libris Henrietta Peirce from her Grandmother. <br/><br/>The first combined edition and the first illustrated edition of THE BEARS. It is based in the 18th century. Nieritz was a popular and prolific writer for German youth. The next two stories are by Agnes Franz. The first is about a rebellious pupil who learns to be good from a wise nun. There is a dark brown spot on the top left hand corner edge of the inside front cover about 1/3 of inch in diameter that has stained through to page 11.</p><p>The inside front cover has an aquamarine coloured line about 1 inch long on it and there is a 3 inch in diameter solid circle the same colour on the title page.
