‎London: T. Nelson And Sons. Good. 1852. Hardcover. The color is worn from the tips of the fore corners and the top/bottom of the spine but nowhere is the leather worn through to the boards. Minor rubbing of spine bands. Else minor wear on the clean sound binding. Front hinge has been repaired not expertly but well. Brief gift note on front flyeaf. Penned note on frontispiece's verso reads "First illegible Prize Awarded to Dear Sarah Barrows Dec. 13th 1853. name illegible Brighton. " Flyleafs frontispiece and first title page which is illustrated are age darkened. Pages 32 33 are lightly damp stained as are pages 206 207 else contents are clean. This book is over 150 years old yet the front and back covers are still shiny and the gold on the spine and edges is still bright. This is a gem for the collector of rather rare leather-bound volumes on Nature. LR-2-A . ; This is the original HARDCOVE 1852 ! ! ! publication not a recent reprint Full dark brown leather FINE BINDING over extra-heavy beveled boards. Five raised spine bands. Bright gold spine lettering. Extensive very fancy designs embossed on front and back covers and spine. All edges are not only still bright gilt but the gold has designs pressed into it on all three edges. Marbled endpapers. Frontispiece and title page illustrations by "T. Brown sc Edin. ' " . Illustrations which face each other are protected by a tissue guard. NATURE. "The following Work is devoted to the consideration of the Phenomena of the Seasons and the numerous evidences of wise design and benevolent arrangement which are disclosed throughout the progress of the year. By this mode of consideraton the subject presents itself to the mind in the most attractive form while it discloses the most conclusive and beautiful evidences of beneficent design under apsects which must be familiar to all. Without attempting to embrace all the details of a theme which is inexhausbile the following pages will be found to illustrate nearly all the most familiar phenomena pertaining to the cycle of the seasons in a form best suited to attract and captivate the popular student of nature.
