Quelques éraflures sur les coupes, et petits défauts. Coins et coiffes émoussés. Plats et dos frottés. C'est le remarquable animalier Auguste Lançon, qui exécute pour cet album les dessins "très observés", gravés sur bois par Hildibrand. Originaire de Saint-Claude dans le Jura. Il entra peu après la parution de cet album comme sergent dans la Commune en 1870, et collabora ensuite dans diverses expositions et revues se faisant remarquer pour la précision de ses croquis. Intèrieur du livre en très bon état.
