In a slipcase with pale blue paper covered boards. Very good. The spine of the book is heavily sun faded and has a couple of very tiny stains. The spine label has a minor chip in the bottom edge. The slipcase is in very good condition with very light rubbing and sun fading. The slipcase also has several areas of very minor soiling. Frank Waters wrote 27 books including novels biographies histories and essay collections. The majority of his fiction and non-fiction mirrors Waters' wide interest in the culture and religion of Navajo Hopi Pueblo and pre-Columbian peoples. He felt that all his books were immediate failures in the beginning. However they were constantly reprinted in small printings and translated into foreign languages until finally gaining worldwide recognition. Number 176 of 1250 copies. The edges of the covers and spine are very gently rubbed and bumped. The spine is a bit rolled. There is a previous owner's inscription on the front pastedown and there is a bookseller's small label on the rear pastedown. Lightly yellowed pages. In a good dust jacket with mild age-toning rubbing ands creasing. The spine of the jacket is very heavily faded. The edges are a little chipped and have four or five small closed tears. The longest closed tear measures 3/4 of an inch long. Frank Waters wrote 27 books including novels biographies histories and essay collections. Tight square book with some very light soiling to covers and minor edge and corner wear. No marks or stamps. Martiniano a young Pueblo Indian has been sent to a white man's school. While there he shoots a deer on government land some two days after the hunting season is over. A forest ranger witnessed the event and went into a fit of rage on seeing the dead animal and hits Martiniano with his gun. The young Pueblo Indian hides in a stream where he is rescued by his friend Palemon who was drawn to the scene by some unexplainable force.
