‎* Es wird geschätzt, dass ca. ein Viertel aller tödlichen Autobahnunfälle ursächlich auf Einschlafen des Fahrzeugführers zurückzuführen sind. Ein Verfahren zur rechtzeitigen Erkennung von Schläfrigkeit beim Autofahrer und Warnung vor Sekundenschlaf würde eine wesentliche Verbesserung der Unfallzahlen bedeuten. Ansätze zur Lösung des Problems bestehen in der Auswertung fahrdynamischer Daten, wie zum Beispiel Lenkverhalten und Spurablage, in der Detektion des Lidschlussverhaltens des Fahrers oder in der Analyse weiterer, am Fahrzeugführer gemessener, physiologischer Signale. Die Aufgabe dieser Arbeit bestand in der Konzeption und Umsetzung eines Fahrsimulatorversuchs, in dem Probanden gezielt ermüdet werden können, und der Untersuchung einer breiten Palette physiologischer Parameter. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass sich ein Teil der untersuchten Größen gemäß gängiger Lehrmeinung verhält. Eine grundlegend neue Erkenntnis konnte aus der Hauttemperatur, gemessen an der dritten Phalanx des fünften Fingers, gewonnen werden. Alle Versuchspersonen, die an dieser Studie teilgenommenen haben, zeigen einen Anstieg der Hauttemperatur bei aufkommender Schläfrigkeit während der Fahraufgabe.
