Although the dust jacket title is not the same as that on the t.p. both describe the rather strange insectivorous plant which was discovered growing in the nutrient-poor bogs of eastern North America and which caused such a sensation when first introduced into cultivation in England. Published in association with the Bentham-Moxon Trust and the Linnean Society this includes a facsimile of John Ellis's original pamphlet from the Linnean Society's library. This is much more though than a mere reprinting; the author describes it as "a biography of Venus's Flytrap" and delves in some detail into the history of its discovery its first description illustration and cultivation. With a 'postscriptum' by Daniel L. McKinley and with Nelson's self-indulgent but amusing touches e.g. "Dramatis personae" on p. xi of the prelims this is a book to savour. Boethius hardcover
