Imponente opera, realizzata grazie al contributo di numerosi briologi di tutta Europa che risposero all'appello del Generale Paris, pubblicato nel 1892 sulle principali riviste botaniche, che invitava studiosi di ogni paese ad inviargli i loro studi su nuove specie di funghi per realizzare il più aggiornato e completo ''Nomenclator Bryologicus''. Il risultato è l'opera presente, che in questa seconda edizione si pregia di essere la più aggiornata bibliografia briologica descrittiva esistente al primo giorno del XX secolo. In fine una mappa geografica ripiegata con le aree di distribuzione delle specie. Ottimo esemplare.. .

La famille des Ébénacées est une famille de plantes dicotylédones qui comprend 500 espèces réparties en deux à six genres. Ce sont des arbres ou des arbustes principalement des régions tropicales mais qui comptent quelques espèces dans les zones tempérées. Ils constituent une importante source de bois : le bois d'ébène et de fruits. Le plaqueminier du Japon est cultivé sous les climats tempérés pour ses fruits (kakis). Une autre espèce produisant des fruits comestibles est le plaqueminier de Virginie alors que les fruits du plaqueminier d'Europe sont uniquement ornementaux. La classification phylogénétique place cette famille dans l'ordre des Ericales et y incorpore les Lissocarpaceae.
