Dillenius, Johann Jakob Dillenius (1687?1747), was was contemporaneous with both Ray and Linnaeus, and this is regarded as "his greatest work."?DNB. First published in 1741, this 1768 edition is a re-issue of the original plates with explanatory text, it covers mosses, liverworts, lycopods, and algae - the illustrations all drawn and engraved by the author. Pregevole edizione della celebre traduzione di Ruel, pubblicata nel 1516 per la prima volta, della piu' importante opera dell'antichita' in campo botanico farmacologico. Sotto il titolo di ogni capitolo viene riportata la nomenclatura, oltre che in greco e latino, anche in italiano. Il sesto libro tratta anche del veleno e degli animali velenosi. L'opera e' una traduzione di Dioscoride, il piu' importante medico botanico dell'antichita', che influenzo' per circa 16 secoli tutti gli studi botanici occidentali. ''Until well into the 17th century... all botanical studies were based on this book, and the greater part of any new botanical matter published in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries was in the form of a commentary on Dioscorides'' (PMM).
