In molti scritti professionali e poetici della maturità resta traccia di "un'amorosa intimità con gli alberi e con le erbe" di un territorio toscano percepito innanzitutto come casa comune. Tra le macerie della guerra, gli "amici fiori rigenerano" la speranza che riaffiori "misteriosa e fresca" la parola "patria".

ill. Il giovane Filippo de Pisis collezionò un erbario di piante essiccate, donato poi al museo botanico patavino, dove venne disaggregato. Le autrici della quinquennale opera di individuazione e riaccorpamento delle opere, evidenziano le implicazioni culturali della tendenza di de Pisis a "osservare" il regno vegetale, passando poi ad analizzare il profilo più strettamente botanico e paesaggistico della collezione di erbe. Il saggio è arricchito da immagini e schede botaniche che testimoniano altresì la serietà scientifica della collezione esaminata.
