Orléans, imprimerie Danicourt Huet s.d., Montpellier, Jean Martel aîné, imprimeur, 1837. 2 plaquettes in/4 en couverture d’attente, 20 p. et 42 p., second mémoire corrigé et augmenté. Rousseurs marquées et bords des feuillets abîmés pour le premier livret : la seconde partie est en bon état. Pritzel 8946 pour la première partie, 8948 pour la seconde. A.F. Provensal de St Hilaire fut un botaniste et un explorateur français (1779-1853). De 1816 à 1822 puis en 1830,il explora l’Amérique du Sud (brésil, Argentine, Paraguay, Uruguay) où il étudiera des milliers d’animaux, insectes, plantes (7608 ! : son herbier est conservé au Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle). A son retour, il obtint une chaire à la Faculté des sciences de Paris puis en 1830 devint membre de l’Académie Royale des sciences en remplacement de Lamarck, , avant d’en devenir le président cinq ans plus tard.
