Kota Kinabalu 2014. Very well illustrated very large thick 8vo pp xii 946 a very good copy in dustwrapper signed by author on the title page. Extremely heavy - extra postage will be required. Dendrobium with approximately 1450 species is one of the most diverse genera in the orchid family and the second biggest orchid genus in Southeast Asia after Bulbophyllum. Its natural range extends from Japan south across the Pacific to Tahiti and New Zealand and from China and India to New Guinea and Australia. Centres of speciation are found in the Himalayan region Indochina the Malay Archipelago especially Sumatra and Borneo the Philippines and New Guinea. Dendrobiums have been popular with growers since the mid nineteenth century. They continue to be popular today and many beautiful hybrids have been bred. Borneo is one of several hot spots of Dendrobium speciation. With 167 named species in fifteen sections as well as several others that remain to be described Borneo is the second most important location after New Guinea of Dendrobium speciation in Malesia. A Guide to Dendrobium of the Philippines
Kota Kinabalu 2015. Well illustrated small slim 8vo pp viii 142 the slightest signs of wear to the covers otherwise virtually as new. The genus Dendrobium was named by Olof Swartz in 1799. The generic epithet refers to the epiphytic habit of the majority of the species. With about 1580 species it is the second largest orchid genus behind only Bulbophyllum. Dendrobiums are one of the most widely distributed genera being found as far north as Korea and Japan throughout China west to India and Sri Lanka down through Peninsular Malaysia Indonesia Borneo the Philippines Guam New Guinea Australia and as far east as Tahiti. The genus when taken in the broad sense and as represented in the Philippines has about 110 species. In fact the Philippines is considered one of the centres of biodiversity for the genus and its relatives. In this Guide the authors present information on the species that have been recorded from the Philippines archipelago. The list is as up to date as possible; however new areas are still being opened up for exploration and study and consequently more new species of all types of orchids are continually being found and described. . A Guide to Dendrobium of Australia
Kota Kinabalu 2015. Well illustrated small slim 8vo pp x 150 paperback a very good new copy. Dendrobium species are attractive conspicuous and numerous along the entire eastern coast of Australia and are popular plants for culture and breeding of colourful hybrids. In contrast to the other books in the series so far where a selection of species was made all Australian species and their variants around 80 are included. There is a full spectrum of plant form from some of the smallest mat-forming dendrobiums to the largest in the genus being over two metres tall and several metres across. The unusual and rarer species of Cape York Peninsula and central Queensland are uncommon in collections and seldom seen requiring travel to remote places. Some of the most striking Dendrobium habitats are illustrated. There have been a number of approaches to the classification of Dendrobium and related genera over the past 30 years. Classification and nomenclature are always evolving as new information becomes available. Genera Orchidacearum Volume 6 2014 included evidence from morphology DNA and all other areas of study and provided an international consensus for Dendrobium bringing a long-awaited degree of stability to the genus. This book follows the Genera Orchidacearum Vol. 6 approach and the Kew Monocot Checklist and considers all available published evidence on the genus. An identification key to the sections is provided and species are arranged in a checklist according to sections. First Edition. Paperback. New. Paperback
