LETTRE d'un Anglois à Paris.
A Londres, 1787. 24 pp. 8vo. Modern boards, original blind covers preserved. Kress B.1261; Stourm, p. 137; not in Goldsmiths. First edition. On French government finances and especially the taxes on the eve of the revolution. The author also sharply rejects the privileges of the clergy, the class that does not pay taxes, has accumulated an enormous wealth and is yet again exempted from paying taxes. The nobility also has priviliges but the author intelligently observes that the nobility is used to sacrifice and serving the state in various capacities, and, contrary to the clergy, it's position in the state is closely tied to the state itself, in other words, a collapse of the state will have immediate impact on the nobility and their status. It discusses the position of Calonne and the possibilities of reform and the various forms of opposition any reform will provoke from various groups.

LETTRE à M. S.... Sur un plan de réforme dans les finances. (Drop-head title).

One of the many replies provoked by Roussel de la Tour's Richesse de l'État in which the author proposed principles of taxation which were wholly contrary to the principles of the Tableau Oeconomique.

LETTRES Critiques sur l'Examen Impartial des Immunités Ecclésiastiques. Addressées à l'Auteur de cet Ouvrage. Seconde Edition.
En France, 1751. 70, (2) pp. 8vo. Modern boards. Conlon S51:11; not in Kress; not in Goldsmiths; not in INED (see 1094 for the work by Chauvelin). The 'Avis de l'Editeur', printed verso title-page states the first manuscript was lost and that it had been necessary to ask the author for another copy of the manuscript. The author did indeed supply another copy of the manuscript but only after he had made considerable changes in the text. This suggests that this is the first printing of the text. The Examen Impartial was written by the Abbé Louis-Philippe Chauvelin in which he argued that, although the clergy was entitled to its special prerogatives, it could not use these to claim total exemption from taxation.According to Conlon a second volume was published in 1753 entitled 'Suite des Lettres Critiques ....'. Conlon also knows of no other edition but the present one as the first publication of this text.

Paris, Imprimerie nationale, (1799). 8 pp. 4to. Disbound. Not in Martin & Walter. Main text Latin and French juxtaposed.Deals with the reimbursement of a M. Batz, holder of the concession of the 'péage' of Saint-Croix (Guienne). This reimbursment was established in article 36 of the decree of March 15, 1790 by which the 'péages' were suppressed and reimbursment promised to those who had previously acquired the concession from the state. Market for bonnerville power minerals 2 volume set
Very Good. N.D. Hardcover. Both volumes appear to be original carbon copies with a number of charts etc. Included. There is not date but the intro speaks of the "Bonneville Power Project" with the BPA created in 1937. These are formed of a number of papers and subjects. Some with authors some without. While there is no date all references are to publications up to the middle 1930's implying this was a publication done as part of the process leading up to the formation of the BPA. Contained in manila folders with brass clasps. The folders are rubbed/worn on the edges but the contents are very good or better. Page count is by the hand lettered notations on the pages but I haven't counted them to insure they are accurate. An interesting bit of Bonneville Power Administration history. ; 11"; 162190 pages . hardcover

These three pieces of this trial are for the most part by Prevost de Saint-Lucien who greatly promoted the idea of charitable institutions. The trial itself deals with the freedom of poor marchants to sell their goods at designated places and illuminate their small tables with candles. Some responsible for maintaining order thought that this form of illumination of the small table and selling goods should be suppressed although a royal decree allowed the merchants to earn a living. Notes and copies of the relevant decrees etc. are included as printed notes. - Two leaves with a small repair in the inner blank margin.

MEMOIRE sur un point essentiel de la Richesse de l'État.
No place, no date. Nice engraved head piece depicting a ship sailing out of a harbour. 16 pp. 8vo. Modern half morocco, marbled boards, gilt lettering on spine. Not in Kress; not in Goldsmiths; not in INED; not in Musset-Pathay First edition. Probably written around 1788-1789 as the author refers to the upcoming meeting of the Three Estates (the only one held in the 18th century) and reminds the reader of the 'grande sechesse de l'été de 1785.' Advocates agriculture and the means to improve its results, and points to the devastating effects of the 'Dime'.
