‎br. Sin dalle sue origini, il pensiero sociologico ha sempre avuto una relazione controversa con le scienze naturali. Molti hanno cercato di prendere le distanze da queste e conferire alla sociologia una sua autonomia concettuale e metodologica; altri hanno continuato a prendere a modello la fisica o la biologia - anche tenendo presente il fatto che la sociologia originerebbe da tali discipline -, al fine di eguagliarne la chiarezza metodologica e la ogget-tività dei risultati. Le teorie della complessità rappresentano il più recente di tali tentativi: costituite dalla sintesi di concetti propri della sistemica, della cibernetica e delle teorie del caos, queste hanno permesso di risolvere, o almeno di modellizzare, questioni che sfuggivano totalmente alla comprensione stessa della metodologia della scienza tradizionale. Naturale, quindi, che la medesima operazione sia stata tentata anche per le scienze sociali, con risultati però non sempre all'altezza delle aspettative. Lo scopo di questo lavoro è quello di esaminare i principali tentativi effettuati di utilizzare le teorie della complessità in sociologia, evidenziandone sia le prevedibili ingenuità che spesso questa operazione ha implicato, sia le interessanti occasioni di riflessione.‎

First and only edition of this extremely rare set published for propaganda on "an ideal women's image" in the Republican Turkey period after the 1960 Coup d'Etat. In addition to the early period posters and brochures printed for the purpose of propaganda for women to join the defense ranks during the War of Independence, (1919-1922), the Ministry of Education continued to publish books to determine the social roles of Turkish women after the proclamation of the Republic. In the Republican era, the propaganda style on women was carried out with such books titled "How to raise children, How to be a good housewife, etc.". This set is one of the book sets including four books titled i.e. Children of Fatma, Birth preparation of Fatma, When Fatma's child was born, and How Fatma feeds her child. This book is based on fresh and original research from archives in France and the Low Countries, concerning customs and beliefs practised around the midsummer solstice. The information has never previously been considered and it reveals a festive treatment of divisiveness, which might also be politically engaged. The book shows how in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries these traditions were not solely observed by the lower classes. A study of texts throughout the Middle Ages shows that the significance of St John's Day was a valued source for some major writers, and it can be argued that it was even the rationale for works such as Chretien's Yvain, and the anonymous Perlesvaus. The midsummer customs also appear in the civic records of Leuven and Metz, in periods where the city authorities were strong enough to break free of feudal controls. Their civic freedom was expressed at the Feast of the Baptist's Nativity, and this appropriation by the bourgeoisie informs the romance, Galeran. The rationale of Midsummer is to examine the disparate, but interlinked uses of the customs, and to bring to the awareness of scholars festive influences current in Europe before the better known influence of Carnival; also to discuss their seminal importance for early fiction and for the theatre. The book further reveals that pre-Christian belief in Chance / Fortune was supported by the phenomenon of the Solstice and that John the Baptist's Nativity, placed on 24 June, provided a way for Christian Fathers to allow for this, safely. He entered the State Government servie in Tamil Nadu and he was retired in 2001. As an Extension Officer, he could have close contact with the masses, especially in rural areas, and get first-hand knowledge of the state of their lives. He gained experience in divese activities including officer administration. He was an honest official all along his career. He now feels quite nostalgic for the department that made him a mature man.Since 1970, he has taught English to students as a service and for his own pleasure. Since 1995, he has been conducting 'spoken English' classes for graduates and employees. He says that Shakespeare's sonnet no. 107 has goaded him on writing books, resulting in this debut work. ‎This groundbreaking collection presents a significantly different portrait of the medieval and modern Indian society, literature, and the nation-state. Reporting on eighteen studies in five distinct sections spanning many centuries of Indian social history it has brought fresh insights into the emergence of innumerable sub-castes owing to various factors such as political, economic, inter-religious and intercultural. This remarkable set of reconstructions presents the reader with familiar as well as unfamiliar group and areas within the subcontinent offering fresh appraisals of the evidence and of modern historical writing. What unites them here is an overarching thesis on social formation and transformation by establishing links chronologically and thematically. It is argued that although modernizing forces entered the caste system with the advent of the European missionaries and trading companies it did not radically alter the system but the changes brought about in the Indian society remained complex. There has been conflict in the society right from the time of Buddha challenging the Vedic and Shastric traditions. We find non-Brahmin tradition as part of broader Hinduism. In British India various reformers launched social reform movements to challenge the hegemony of the upper castes and to bring about change and transformation towards the egalitarian order.
