Resti tra noi. Etnografia di un manicomio criminale
br. L'ospedale psichiatrico giudiziario, manicomio e prigione, è l'ultimo residuo istituzionale di una tradizione di contenimento e cura della devianza. Molti l'hanno considerato l'esempio par excellence delle istituzioni totali, luogo in cui scompare una marginalità pericolosa e indesiderata. L'etnografia svolta all'interno di uno di essi vuole però restituirne i confini frastagliati, concentrandosi sui soggetti che a lungo l'hanno abitato e che in esso hanno visto nascere speranze, affetti, relazioni. Per nulla totale, l'OPG è un mondo sociale molteplice e cangiante - un campo di battaglia che fa delle pratiche di continua negoziazione e della plasticità dei ruoli e degli spazi la propria ragion d'essere. L'istituzione totale, insieme a certe riletture di Basaglia, Goffman, Foucault, Bourdieu, deve cedere il posto, allora, a una rappresentazione più sfumata, attenta alle zone grigie in cui i soggetti si muovono, descrizione che l'etnografia aiuta a costruire e restituire.

He has been ‘back at the Museum about 3 weeks & most of that has been spent in helping to get ready for the public some of the more accessible galleries’. It will he fears ‘be some time yet before we can hope to be able to see the Franks Continental on show. It is like most of the ceramics still packed away & as the fittings of the New Wing cases are not yet complete with a few exceptions it is hard to say when the things can be got out.’ He hopes to be able to ‘get on with that work’ early in the new year. Il cosmo amazzonico. Simbolismo degli indigeni tukano del Vaupés

Nell'antropologia del Novecento spiccano due libri anomali e fascinosi, che si fondano sulla testimonianza di un unico informatore: "Dio d'acqua" di Marcel Griaule e "II cosmo amazzonico" di Gerardo Reichel-Dolmatoff. Come il vecchio Ogotemmeli aprì a Griaule le prospettive stupefacenti della cosmologia e della metafisica dogon, così Antonio Guzmán (ma il suo vero nome era Miru Púu) introdusse Reichel-Dolmatoff alla dottrina della sua tribù, i Desana, e al tempo stesso gli svelò il complesso edificio del "cosmo amazzonico". Centrale, in quelle concezioni, e sottilmente elaborato, è tutto ciò che si connette alla caccia e al rapporto con gli animali. Solo all'interno di quei fatti si potrà delineare la figura e la funzione dello sciamano, punto di equilibrio precario e sempre rinnovato per il mondo della foresta amazzonica. Attraverso le parole di Miru Púu e le rigorose analisi di Reichel-Dolmatoff un imponente e in larga parte ignoto territorio di pensieri, di credenze e di emozioni si svela ai nostri occhi.
