THE ETHICS OF MEDICAL HOMICIDE AND MUTILATION.
Devin-Adair Company: 1922. First published in 1919 this book is the third printing from 1922 285 pages. "In this book is discusses the morality involved in the ordinary cases of medical homicide and mutilation. The articles may seem to be intended for Catholic physicians and spiritual directors alone but the desire in writing them was to reach all practitioners to the end that the Natural Law which binds every man may be observed. Morality is not made such in its fundamental principles by any religious creed but by the requirements of Divine Order which finally prevails no matter what the opposition. The most vital facts in morality the basic distinction between crime and all that is virtuous or indifferent morally is in abstract principle alone. " The subjects covered include self mutilation abortion & miscarriage suicide homicide and the ethics of birth control. Twilight sleep to avert pain in parturition is discussed and concludes that these methods are morally illicit and useless. Chapter 23 -Vasectomy Or Sterlization By State Law is a fascinating look at the State of Indiana law of 1907 "enacting a vasectomy law which obliges the superintendents of some prisona dna asylums to appoint two surgeons whose office is to sterilize sexually criminal idiots imbeciles and similar persons if those surgeons deem the propagation of children by such so-called degenerates detrimental to society." Omar Khayyam. Frederick Baron Corvo Umar Khaiyam
RUBAIYAT OF UMAR KHAIYAM
London & New York: John Lane The Bodley Head 1903. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Duodecimo; xiv 464 pages variant linen-backed boards paper label on spine t.e.g. edges untrimmed the extra paper spine label appears to have been used. Two Lane order brochures for other titles laid in.

Bi-lingual. A John Lane book but printed in Boston. " Omar was an Oriental and it is sadly difficult for a Westerner to interpret what an Oriental says. His words my have a specious sound familiar to the ear but may hide a meaning which he would not care for the uninitiated to understand. . It is plain therefore that one is at liberty to choose between the literal and the allegorical reading of 'Umar's graceful and often epigrammatic lines. Frederick Baron Corvo shows that he is a masterly translator. He often penetrates through the decorative filigree of the French style to something approaching 'Umar's own marvellous concentration condensation." - Introduction. J. B. Nicolas considered himself "Soufique". This edition was printed in Boston and was issued one day before the British edition. John Lane The Bodley Head hardcover
