Mystique né près de Bruxelles au XIVe siècle, Jan Ruysbroeck ou van Runsbroec, fut ordonné prêtre à 24 ans et devint chapelain de Sainte Gudule à Bruxelles ; il y écrivit ses premières oeuvres mystiques, fonda ensuite le prieuré de Gronendael et y vécut jusqu'à sa mort en 1381. Il fut suspecté de panthéisme et de quiétisme par Gerson puis Bossuet mais fut tout de même béatifié en 1908. Bonne traduction. Couverture légèrement passée, bon exemplaire (Caillet, 9721).‎

Rüstam Aslan was born in 1965 in Sivas, Turkey and graduated from the Istanbul University, Dept. of Prehistory, and obtained his PhD. in 2006 in Prehistoric Archaeology from the University of Tubingen (Germany), studying with Prof. Dr. Manfred Korfmann. He then started his academic career at Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University (Turkey) and currently continues to teach at the University as a professor. Since 1988 he has been a member of the excavations team at Troy, and between 2007 and 2011 he directed a survey project on the Troad that focused on recording and mapping the Bronze Age Settlements System around Troy. In 2013, he became Director of the Troy Excavations in northwest Turkey. His recent seminars have dealt with archaeological topography of the Troad and the Archaeology of Troy. He has published over 100 scientific papers and 12 books.‎

‎When Bartolomeo Sacchi ('Platina', 1421-1481) wrote his Vitae pontificum (Lives of the Popes) and presented it to Pope Sixtus IV in 1475, he surely could not have imagined how influential it would become over the centuries. His was the first papal history composed as a humanist Latin narrative and, as such, marked a distinct breakthrough in relation to the Liber pontificalis, the standard medieval chronicle of the papacy. Whatever Platina's intentions for the book, it soon came to be regarded as the official history of the Roman pontiffs. After the editio princeps of Venice 1479, updated and extended editions continued to be produced until late in the eighteenth century. The largely untold story of Platina's Lives of the Popes and its fortuna is the focus of this book. The Lives were particularly popular because of Platina's frank criticisms of papal behaviour which did not live up to his humanist moral values. He reminded the popes that they were mere human beings and urged them not to indulge in luxury and nepotism. Catholics, whether or not they agreed with such indictments, read the Lives eagerly, while Protestants naturally appreciated Platina's fault-finding approach towards the papacy. The role which censorship played in the reception of the Lives was previously unknown. This book examines the censorship process (1587-1592) in detail, including a critical edition of the assessments and corrections by English and Italian censors newly uncovered in the Vatican and in Milan. The present text, Jan Gossart: The Documentary Evidence accompanies this volume. This tome covers more than 130 documents, including inventories, accounts, biographies, descriptions and other records about Gossart's life and works, up until the mid-18th century. These mainly archival records have been re-examined and transcribed anew, and subsequently discovered documents have been added. Each transcription is accompanied by a short description and comment as well as published references. The book includes photographs of original records.
