Il fut également l'un des premiers dreyfusards et démissionna de son poste d'inspecteur de l'Instruction publique pour manifester son désaccord avec les positions officielles du gouvernement dans les débuts de l'Affaire. Cet ouvrage contient le recueil des articles qu'il publia dans "Le Temps" de 1871 à 1879, principalement consacrés aux questions d'éducation et d'instruction publique. Quelques rousseurs.
