This statement is from the introduction to the book and it is a scholary treatise on the subject that actually is a fascinating read. In addition there is a letter written and signed from the author to a Mr. LeRoy E. Kimball at New York Universitry - dated March 6 1917. The previous owner noted in pencil on the botom of the letter that the author died in berlin 8/2/1939. The Recipient according to the internet was the author of a piece on James Wilson of Vermont - america's first globe maker. Book is in very good condition although there is a damaged spot on the back cover. The letter is pasted on the inside cover with the bookplate of Kimball. . Signed by Author. Hard Cover. Il a été psychanalysé par James Strachey puis par Joan Riviere. Il était psychanalyste didacticien de la British Psychoanalytical Society. Son uvre est devenue populaire parmi les spécialistes, psychiatres psychologues, pédiatres et éducateurs, mais certains de ses concepts ont également atteint le grand public. Ses thèses se révèlent exigeantes, et ses notions d'« aire », d'« espace » et d'objet transitionnel ont souvent donné lieu à des simplifications. Aujourd'hui Winnicott est souvent cité. On lui reproche aussi d'avoir réduit la femme à son rôle de mère (« suffisamment bonne ») en y négligeant celui de la femme-« amante ». Winnicott est considéré, comme Wilfred Bion, comme un des psychanalystes parmi les plus novateurs et originaux. Il est de ceux qui ont fait évoluer les cures d'enfants et d'adolescents, mais ses théories s'appliquent aussi aux adultes. Ses influences sont multiples, outre Freud on y trouve principalement Klein et Anna Freud. Il a surtout cherché à théoriser le développement de la psyché chez le nourrisson et le petit enfant. En France, c'est entre autres Jean-Bertrand Pontalis pour l'espace transitionnel, André Green pour les questions soulevées par les cas-limite de la psychanalyse, et René Roussillon pour les troubles narcissiques identitaires, qui ont fait connaître Winnicott. Outre une double pratique clinique de son métier de pédiatre et de psychanalyste, dont il témoigne dans de nombreux ouvrages, on doit à Winnicott des découvertes telles que l'espace transitionnel, espace potentiel, paradoxal ni intérieur ni extérieur situé entre le bébé et sa mère. C'est là que se développerait l'aire de jeu et de créativité où l'enfant se voit offrir la possibilité de faire des expériences fondamentales pour sa maturation psychique.
