It is an outcome of an international conference organized during 26-30 November 2012 at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Te chnology (KIIT), Bhubaneswar by International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES). A plenary session was organized jointly by the editors of the book. The authors of the chapters presented their findings as research papers in this conference and after suggestions; modified versions of selected papers were included in this book. Beside, 2-3 chapters were invited from the scholars who are working on 'Human Growth and Nutrition'. In this way this book is the result of collaborative efforts of a group of scholars. The book is rich in variety of aspect of human growth, development and nutrition, wide range of papers focused on different issues among people from North-East to South and East to West on Indian continent. Surely, it would be helpful for scholars of different fields like Medical sciences, peadiatrics, human nutrition, anthropology, geography, sociology, economics, political sciences, population and tribal studies and so on. There is no such compilation having such a wide coverage from very inception to adulthood, north to south and east to west. ABOUT THE AUTHOR:- Dr. RK Gautam is among the pioneer Anthropologists. He joined Department of Anthropology, Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidylaya (A Central University), Sagar, Madhya Pradesh as an Assistant Professor in July 2004. He was born on October 2nd, 1970 in a village Deogaon, district Mandla of Madhaya Pradesh. He was awarded degree of Ph.D. by the University of Delhi. Recently, he was awarded Raman Post Doctoral Fellowship by UGC for the years 2015-16 for USA. His research is focused on Human growth, Human nutrition, Human genetics, population studies and tribal studies. Dr. PK Patra is Reader in Anthropology at Utkal University, Bhubaneswar since December 2010. He was awarded Ph.D in 2002 and MA in Japanese language in 2003, both from University of Delhi. He received Mombukagakusho Fellowship for postdoctoral research in Japan in 2005. From 2005 to 2009, he worked at University of Leiden in the Netherlands as NWO postdoctoral fellow. Thereafter, in 2010 and 2013-14, he received ESRC postdoctoral fellowship to do research at University of Sussex in United Kingdom. A second edition with just 31 pages was issued in 1895 and later that year this third enlarged edition. A health community cookbook with recipes numbered 30 to 253 numbers 1-29 enumerate minimally prepared foods such as Bouillon Tea as well as selected grains and fruits. A propensity can be seen for broiled poultry and boiled vegetables but the coverage is broadly standard for its time as baked goods and puddings do not necessarily "interfere with the health of the stomach" page 29. Interest lies less in the entries themselves than in the recommendations for their consumption yams ought not be eaten more than once per week; pearl tapioca should be avoided as should dried currants as both cause appendicitis. ~ A document of the curious social movement geographically anchored in the District of Columbia known as Ralstonism. The Ralstonite system of model meals - here outlined in fifty-five chapters - rested on a "philosophy" of digestibility the determination of which might involve many factors. "A hard boiled egg will digest" we learn for instance "every bit of it but will take much more time than will a soft boiled egg. This extra amount of time that the egg is in the stomach so that it is not fermenting will furnish staying power ." page 59. Strictures against red meat and game alongside the promotion of fresh and dried fruits vegetables and grains of course already had an acknowledged pedigree in health-conscious circles. But present too are some dubious physiological speculations proffered on the basis of "the many experiments made by the Ralston Health Club" page 60. ~ Devised by Webster Edgerly 1852-1926 writing under the pseudonym Edmund Shaftesbury Ralston was an acronym meant to stand for principles of healthy living Regime Activity Light Strength Temperation Oxygen Nature; or perhaps more accurately a backronym designed to fit out the surname of another concocted alias: Everett Ralston if the labyrinthine story related in the 1900 edition of the Club's membership book can be believed Book of Star Ralstonism 12th nominal edition; 77th actual edition Washington D.C.: Ralston Publishing.
