‎HYGIENE. - LIEUX D'AISANCE‎ ‎Lettres patentes du Roi, portant privilège exclusif au profit de la Compagnie des pompes antiméphytiques, en concurrence avec celle du Ventilateur, de faire, dans l'étendue du Royaume, soit par le procédé des pompes antiméphytiques, & autres accessoires, soit par celui du ventilateur, la vuidange des fosses, puits & puisards ; & défenses à toutes personnes de faire ladite vuidange suivant l'ancienne méthode, à peine de saisie, confiscation, & de 1000 livres d'amende. Données à Versailles le 3 novembre 1787‎ ‎Paris N.-H. Nyon 1788 in-4 en feuille‎ ‎4 pp.Texte important pour la connaissance des techniques de vidange et leur inscription dans le paysage édilitaire. Les deux Compagnies citées dans ces dispositions royales avaient obtenu, à la fin du XVIIIe siècle (1779 et 1787), le privilège exclusif de vidanger les lieux d'aisance, sur la base de deux techniques différentes : "Les intéressés en l'entreprise des pompes, ainsi que la Compagnie du ventilateur, pourront travailler en concurrence, tant dans la ville & fauxbourgs de Paris, que par-tout le Royaume, à la vuidange des fosses d'aisance, puits & puisards, & que les deux Compagnies auront également la liberté de faire usage pour lesdites vuidanges, soit du procédé des pompes, & autres moyens accessoires, soit de celui du ventilateur".C'est Jean Viot de Fonteny qui mit au point le système de pompage manuel, destiné à remplacer le système de ventilation par le feu de Laborie, Cadet et Parmentier.Cf. la thèse d'Emmanuel Adler : La gestion des déjections humaines : un défi urbain. Pierres 1782 in-8 broché sous demi-couverture factice de papier marbré‎ ‎xxxij pp., 70 pp., un f. vierge, 8 pp. (Supplément).Wellcome III, 345. Unique édition de cet essai méritoire, avec le très rare supplément. Jean Janin de Combe-Blanche (1731-1799 ou 1811) était chirurgien et se spécialisa avec bonheur dans l'ophtalmologie ; mais, en mars 1782, il mena plusieurs séries d'expériences pour réduire les exhalaisons devant une commission composée de membres de l'Académie des sciences et de celle de médecine. Les résultats en furent vulgarisés dans une série d'opuscules, dont notre titre constitue le premier.
