Mit besonderer Sorgfalt werden die Gallensteine behandelt. - "Parallel mit den großen Fortschritten auf dem Gebiet der Hepatologie im engeren Sinne lief eine in ihren praktischen Konsequenzen außerordentlich segensreiche Entwicklung, die die Krankheiten der Gallenblase, vor allem die Cholelithiasis betraf. Als Markstein kann hier die Monographie von Heckel von Hemsbach (1822-1856) 'Ueber die 'Concremente im thierischen Organismus' gelten, die von Billroth kurz nach dem Tode Meckels 1856 herausgegeben wurde. Auf Meckel von Hemsbach geht die später von Naunyn (1839-1925) aufgenommene Theorie des lithogenen Katarrhs der Gallenblase zurück, wonach die Steinbildung nur bei vorhandener Entzündung der Gallenblase möglich sein sollte. Meckel von Hemsbach gab auch eine Einteilung der Gallensteine nach ihrer Beschaffenheit" (Franken, Dokumente zur neueren Geschichte der Hepatologie, S. 113 ff.). - Leicht stockfl., kleiner Wasserrand. Potain received the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Paris in 1853. In 1856, Potain became assistant to J.B. Bouillaud and became chief of Bouillaud's clinic. He also served on the staffs of the Hôpital St. Antoine and the Hôpital Necker. In 1859, He became assistant professor of medicine at the University of Paris and two years later associate professor.
