Das Werk beruht auf Vorlesungen, die der Verfasser im Jahre 1729 hielt und beschreibt ausführlich die damals neuesten Diagnoseverfahren und Therapieformen. - Hermann Boerhaave (1668-1738) studierte zuerst Theologie, dann Medizin und wurde Arzt in Harderwyk, wo er sich so auszeichnete, daß er 1702 zum Prof. für Medizin, Chemie und Botanik in Leiden ernannt wurde. "Selten noch ist ein Arzt so gefeiert worden, hat ein Arzt seine Schüler, zu denen die hochbegabtesten Geister gehörten, so enthusiasmiert wie B." (H./H.). - Satzspiegel meist etwas gebräunt.‎
