Their speeches are distinguished by clarity of presentation elegance of form impeccable consistency and captivating simplicity that never veers into crudeness. <br />Charles Lachaud is best known for his participation in the high-profile trial of 1840 where 24-year-old Marie Lafarge was accused of poisoning her husband. She was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labor. <br />Édouard Allou gained fame in the case of statesman Léon Michel Gambetta who faced trial in 1877. This collection includes his materials defending actress Sarah Bernhardt in her dispute with the Comédie-Française. <br />Fernand Labori earned a reputation as a defender of ideas rather than individuals. Cléry was the King's valet and this is a first hand account. It is considered the most important period writing on the captivity of Louis XV.
