Collezione completa. Insieme in ottime condizioni di conservazione (da segnalare solo tracce di ruggine alla pinzatura di alcuni fascicoli), completo di un rarissimo messaggio dattiloscritto circolare su carta intestata della rivista, che annuncia l’uscita dei due fascicoli complementari a chiusura dell’annata. L’ultima annata della rivista «Note fotografiche», l’“house organ” di AGFA Foto diretto da Alfredo Ornano e stampato a Milano presso la tipografia Lucini anziché Rizzoli dall’8 luglio 1941 al febbraio 1943, è probabilmente la prima esperienza di Albe Steiner come art director. Steiner illustra regolarmente con fotomontaggi pubblicitari la seconda e la quarta di copertina. Sospesa con il numero 10 dell'aprile 1942 «per disposizioni ministeriali», pubblicò nel febbraio 1943 due fascicoli monografici fuori numerazione per completare l’annata: «Fotografare» e «Pose istantanee», al fine di rispettare l’impegno preso con gli abbonati. Copertine fotografiche di W. Benser, Franco Grignani, Giovanni Scheiwiller e altri, stampa a cura del tipografo Lucini. Tra i collaboratori troviamo Guido Piovene, Luigi Veronesi, Giulio Galimberti, R. Muratore, Ermanno F. Scopinich, Pierluigi Erizzo, Federico Vender, Giorgio Mazzonis, Bruno Munari, G. Muggiani, G. None. Good. Photograph mounted to board with roughly cut edges 7.75 x 9.75 inches likely ca. 1900-1920. An unusual image of an event that's difficult to place. At one end a young boy looking a big haughty with his cigar bottle and chains. At the other end a man who looks exhausted and maybe a little past tipsy presumably his father. Both men appear to be wearing yarmulkes suggesting along with the party boy that it may be a Bar Mitzvah. The musicians also appear a little tired especially the two in the back whose arms sag as they try to hold the pose. A subdued but intriguing collective portrait. <br/><br/> unknown

Occupational portrait of sixteen men with "Little Minister" caps
<p>Photograph 5 x 7 inches mounted on 7 x 9 embossed card. In Good condition heavily soiled and worn around the board edges small half-inch loss at the upper left corner of the photograph. No markings on verso. The men are possibly furnace workers several with towels around their necks and all six in the bottom row holding twin pipes. Each man wears a hat two of which are visibly branded "Little Minister" utilizing the front panel as a billboard. B. F. Goodrich held a trademark for "Little Minister" recorded in the Pearson 1916 <em>Rubber Trade Directory </em>p.412. The product was a small toy one of very few manufactured by the Akron company better known for tires and sporting equipment. The hat may have been part of a promotion for the company—or perhaps it was related to the 1934 film adaptation of J. M. Barrie's starring Katharine Hepburn Whatever the context they're unusually early examples of the iconic American baseball cap used for advertising--a practice more associated with the rise of "trucker hats" in the 1970s.</p>

Outstanding set of 12 well developed and preserved original silver bromide photographies showing a consecutive series of nude scenes with German dancer and actress Olga Desmond (i.e. Olga Sellin, 1890-1964) in focus. Desmond was one of the first female performers who promoted motion nudity on stage as a means of aesthetic expression, and was therefore heavily oppressed in conservative Prussia, where public performances only of rigid bodies, e.g. as imitation of famous ancient classical sculptures, were morally accepted. Starting in 1908 she and her male partner, the athlete Adolf Salge, performed scenographed series of »living pictures«, often complemented by dance movements and supported by music. These so-called »Evenings of Beauty« (Schönheits-Abende) took place in the Berlin Neues Schauspielhaus, as well as in other German cities like Leipzig and Breslau and even in St. Petersburg. Of great popularity, well covered by the media and the cultural industry (even postcards were produced) as well as documented by this series of photographies for sale, those events were nevertheless prohibited severals times, because Desmond and her partners usually posed and moved nude, wearing only body-paint. But her reputation as a cultural (and also early feminist) trouble-maker was also a good business opportunity. Desmond even sold cosmetic products carrying her name, thus being a predecessor of Salma Hayek, Eva Mendes and the like. - Known sets of this series usually contain 11 photographies, whereof the 1st is a dressed-up portrait of the actress and the other 10 show »living pictures«. Sometimes the prints were tipped on the photographer's (Hofphotograph Skowraneck) printed grey boards that also incorporate captions like „Adoration“, „Venus Anadyomene“ or „Flirt“. Other sets only contain the plain silver bromide prints not tipped-on, like the preceded. Originally also a sheet with 4 ornamented pages of introducing text by Max Thielert was attached. Preceded set lacks this attachment and the introducing photo portrait of the dressed Desmond, both are reproduced in good quality. However it contains a bonus of two prints with motives showing the performer with a veil, unknown to the other sets. All photographies bear the stamp of „Neue Photographische Gesellschaft“. - Photographies with silver margins, boards of map slightly foxy, former owner's name on front cover and inside, flaps with some minor tears, generally a fine and rare set.
