Charmet Ballo Marina
Marina Ballo Charmet. fotografie e Video 1993/2006 [+CD]
124; COL e BN; rileg. rigida. Editore: Electa, Milano, 2006.

Chase, Edna Woolman: Editor-in-Chief
Vogue (U.S.) Magazine, November (Nov.) 1, 1933, Vol. 82, No. 9, Whole No. 1471 - Fashions for Limited Incomes
This special depression-era issue features, accordingly, fashions for limited incomes. Graced with classy cover art by Pierre Mourgue of city ladies in dark fur-trimmed coats, the 104 pages include a wonderful assortment of Paris fashions, New York fashions, society and variety news, plus many wonderful ads, our favorites being the color-illustrated Budweiser ad inside the front cover which features a glamorous ballroom scene, and the color-photo back cover Camel cigarette ad which features Mrs. Powell Cabot of Boston. Unmarked with somewhat above-average external wear. Chips from backstrip. Back cover loose but present. Overall, a pleasing vintage copy. Book

CHATWIN, Bruce (Sheffield, 1940 - Nizza, 1989)
Bruce Chatwin. Photographs and Notebooks
Un estratto dal diario di Bruce Chatwin. Fotografie a colori e una in bianco e nero . 8vo (cm 26x29,5). pp. 16. . Ottimo (Fine). . Prima edizione (First Edition). . In words and pictures unexplored places and people are brought alive – Nouakchott shanty towns, Moorish travellers, Nepalese temples – and the formal simplicity and perfection of their worlds portrayed. Lyrically and concisely he evokes the vertiginous splendour of the shrine of Ansari and mudbrick granaries in Mali, the gostly desolation of Mauretania, flower-filled gardens in Afghanistan. In November Cape will publish a selection of these for the first time, designed by David King and with an introduction by Francis Wyndham. As the following pages show, it is a breathtaking book, hugely imaginative and, like all of Chattwin's work, wholly original.

Chaubin Frédéric
CCCP. Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed. Ediz. inglese, francese e tedesca
ill., ril. Elected the architectural book of the year by the International Artbook and Film Festival in Perpignan, France, Frédéric Chaubin's Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed explores 90 buildings in 14 former Soviet Republics. Each of these structures expresses what Chaubin considers the fourth age of Soviet architecture, an unknown burgeoning that took place from 1970 until 1990. Contrary to the 1920s and 1950s, no "school" or main trend emerges here. These buildings represent a chaotic impulse brought about by a decaying system. Taking advantage of the collapsing monolithic structure, architects went far beyond modernism, going back to the roots or freely innovating. Some of the daring ones completed projects that the Constructivists would have dreamt of (Druzhba Sanatorium, Yalta), others expressed their imagination in an expressionist way (Palace of Weddings, Tbilisi). A summer camp, inspired by sketches of a prototype lunar base, lays claim to Suprematist influence (Prometheus youth camp, Bogatyr). Then comes the "speaking architecture" widespread in the last years of the USSR: a crematorium adorned with concrete flames (Crematorium, Kiev), a technological institute with a flying saucer crashed on the roof (Institute of Scientific Research, Kiev), a political center watching you like Big Brother (House of Soviets, Kaliningrad). In their puzzle of styles, their outlandish strategies, these buildings are extraordinary remnants of a collapsing system. In their diversity and local exoticism, they testify both to the vast geography of the USSR and its encroaching end of the Soviet Union, the holes in a widening net. At the same time, they immortalize many of the ideological dreams of the country and its time, from an obsession with the cosmos to the rebirth of identity. About the series TASCHEN is 40! Chaubin Frédéric
CCCP. Cosmic Communist Constructions Photographed. Ediz. inglese, francese e tedesca
ill., br.
