"Be', diciamo che entrambi i lavori mi hanno dato filo da torcere! Trovare le foto con cui iniziare non è stato facile, inizialmente ho provato a fare qualche ricerca sul web e in biblioteca... ma niente, purtroppo. Non ricordo chi mi consigliò di chiedere ai fotografi della zona (in effetti avrei dovuto pensarci prima!), ma così feci e per mia fortuna entrò in scena l'amico Pino. Mi passò almeno 200 fotografie d'epoca che aveva già convertito in formato digitale, una vera e propria manna dal cielo per ciò che avevo intenzione di fare. La materia prima non mi mancava, quindi era giunto il momento di mettersi al lavoro: non avevo più scuse per rimandare".

Archive of 19 original Large Size silver gelatin photographs each measuring 8" x 10" depicting scenes across the Caribbean islands of Jamaica St. Thomas Trinidad and Bermuda during the early 20th century. The set includes vivid documentation of tropical landscapes urban coastal development and local inhabitants revealing the complex intersections of colonial leisure indigenous labor and early Caribbean tourism. Each have a penciled caption describing the scene or location en verso.<br /> <br /> The photographs feature a diverse range of settings from lush jungle interiors and palm-lined roads to bustling waterfronts ports and hotel grounds. Several images capture Caribbean women balancing baskets of fruit atop their heads children playing in shaded gardens and fishermen working along the shoreline each an unguarded moment of daily life rarely preserved in colonial-era photography. Others depict sweeping views of bays and harbors including anchored ships and the rising infrastructure of coastal towns suggestive of expanding trade routes and the presence of European or American visitors. The architectural scenes including hotels roads and markets document an early 20th-century Caribbean in transition between rural subsistence and modern commerce. The group’s geographic breadth from Jamaica’s Blue Mountain foothills to the maritime scenes of Trinidad and Bermuda provides an important comparative record of island ecologies and economies in the aftermath of British imperial consolidation and the rise of cruise-based tourism.<br /> <br /> Light handling wear and some surface scuffing to some prints mild curling to edges otherwise images remain well-contrasted and clearly printed. Cliché Carjat, 10, rue Notre-Dame de Lorette. Une minuscule pastille blanche dans la barbe. Très bel état. Proche d'un tirage au charbon par ses tons chauds et profonds, la photoglyptie est un procédé photomécanique complexe de reproduction phographique dont l'édition usa durant environ 20 ans, de 1875 à 1895. Cherchant une image idéale et esthétique des hommes célèbres, les plaques étaient toujours retouchées et repeintes, pour gommer une ride disgracieuse ou un défaut trop gênant, lustrer les cheveux, etc. C'est ainsi que la photographie et l'estampe se rejoignent dans une représentation nouvelle. La Galerie Contemporaine devint une maison d'édition qui vendait les images des hommes contemporains, ces images furent assemblées en 8 volumes in-folio par Paul de Lacroix mais continuaient à se vendre à part au siège de la Galerie Contemporaine.
