Dimond, Frances; Taylor, Roger
Crown and Camera : The Royal Family and Photography, 1842-1910
223 pages. Index. Glossary. "Presents a magnificent display of historic photographs from the Royal Archives from 1842, when the first known photograph of a member of the Royal Family was taken, to 1910 and the end of Edward VII's reign... Based on the exhibition of the same title in the Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace. Through the work of nearly 100 photographers, it presents an invaluable record of the development of photography in the nineteenth century, both in terms of technical processes and as a form of art. As a detailed and continuous portrait gallery of the nineteenth-century Royal Family, it is full and authoritative. But is is also a record of the Victorian and Edwardian periods - informative in its wide-ranging perspective and delightful in its idiosyncrasies." - from dust jacket. Clean, bright and unmarked with faintest traces of wear. Dust jacket now preserved in glossy new archival-grade Brodart cover. Excellent copy. Gift quality. Book

DINE, Jim (Cincinnati, 1935)
Jim Dine. The Photographs so Far
Goteborg Museum of Art - Hasselblad Center, Goteborg, 17 gennaio - 14 marzo 2004; 3. Photographische Sammlung - SK Stiftung Kultur, Koln, 14 maggio - 1 agosto 2004; 4. Davidson Art Center, Ezra and Cecile Zilkha Gallery, Middletown, 10 settembre - 8 novembre 2004. 1. Heliogravures : fotografie in bianco e nero 2. Digital Prints : fotografie a colori e in bianco e nero 3. Polaroids, Chromogenics e Gelatin Silver Prints: fotografie a colori e in bianco e nero 4. Text : Testi in francese di Marco Livingstone, Andy Grundberg, Jean-Luc Monterosso, Stephanie Wiles. Edizione in inglese e francese. 4 volumi . 4to (cm 29x22,5). pp. 1046. . Ottimo (Fine). . Prima edizione (First Edition). . This catalogue raisonne marks the first comprehensive exhibition of photographs by Jim Dine. Since 1996, the internationally acclaimed artist has used cameras and lenses to make images that he has turned into prints using heliogravure and digital ink-jet processes as well as conventional color and black-and-white photographic printing. Combining his zest for image making with a long devotion to self-expressive materiality, Dine imbues his photographs with an intensity that is occasionally traumatic but invariably beautiful. Dine's photographs present a familiar repertory of images: tools, hearts, and a torso of Venus as well as the more recent iconography of a crow, a skull, a Pinocchio doll, and an odd-couple ape and cat. For Dine photography is one among other media, the camera but one of many tools with which to make pictures. This refusal to privilege one method over another helps explain how, in the space of only six or seven years, Jim Dine has managed to produce such a large number of haunting photographic images that remain consistent with the tenor of his art as a whole while expanding its technical repertoire and range of possibilities.

Diniz, Pepe
Kids of Francmoisin
This is an about very good softcover copy with some cover wear. Covers rubbed. The photographer Pepe Diniz, took these photographs in 1972. During the early 20th century the encampment of Francmoisin, just outside Paris in the village of St. Denis, was a mix of Roma, or gypsies and Portuguese people. In the mid-1950s, Portuguese moved to France in significant numbers to escape António de Oliveira Salazar's dictatorship. So by the time Pepe Diniz took these photographs the population was mostly just French people of Portuguese descent. Slim but fascinating look at the slum of Francmoisin. Illustrated in black & white with 39 photographs. 11" high X 9" wide, about 45 pages. This book will be securely packed and shipped with tracking.
